"Wonder Twins powers activate!"
Deadline confirms that HBO Max's live-action DC Comics comedy movie The Wonder Twins has found its two leads. KJ Apa (Riverdale) and Isabel May (1883) will play Zan and Jayna, the heroic twins (hence the title) who first debuted in animation before making the leap to comic books.
While very little is known about the movie beyond its comedic tone, Zan is a watery shapeshifter, while Jayna can transform into an animal. Hailing from the planet Exxor, they were orphaned during a plague and gained a pet in Gleek the Space Monkey. Travelling to Earth to warn the Justice League about the villainous Grax, they blended into life on Earth by posing as Swedish exchange students.
The two Gotham City High School students have made a number of appearances over the years, including in Teen Titans Go!, Smallville, and The Flash.
Black Adam and Rampage co-writer Adam Sztykiel is making his directorial debut on The Wonder Twins from a script he wrote, while shooting is set to take place in Atlanta over the summer. With Blue Beetle now set for a theatrical release, this will be the second HBO Max DC Comics movie after Batgirl.
Apa's credits include Riverdale, Songbird, and The Hate U Give, while Dutton is best known for 1883 and Young Sheldon. They certainly look a little like twins, and we're definitely intrigued.
The Wonder Twins doesn't currently have a release date.
