Warner Bros. Discovery/DC Films Will Have A Presence At SDCC, But Will Make "Big Changes" To Their Approach

We recently learned that Marvel Studios will be returning to SDCC this year for the first time since 2019, and it's now been announced that Warner Bros. Discovery/DC Films will also be on hand.

Kevin Feige officially announced that Marvel Studios will be returning to San Diego Comic-Con next month after a three-year hiatus, and is expected to have a significant showing planned for Hall H. Now, THR is reporting that Warner Bros. Discovery, fresh from its recent merger, will also be on hand - though it sounds like DC Films will have a more subdued presence than usual.

Panels for House of the Dragon, The Sandman and Harley Quinn are scheduled, but CEO David Zaslav is said to have made some "big changes" to the studio's approach this year. For a start, Warners, including DC, will have no presence on the convention floor. The CW's shows, such as The Flash, Superman & Lois, and the upcoming Supernatural prequel, will also be absent as the network faces a possible sale.

Of course, all eyes will be on WBD's approach to promoting The Flash movie after star Ezra Miller's recent behaviour, but it doesn't sound like we'll be getting any updates at Comic-Con. Apparently, "movies that are to open in 2023, such as The Flash and Blue Beetle, will not have panels, regardless of the presence, as they are considered too far out for any panel to have a meaningful impact."

It's not clear if the likes of Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, which are set to open later this year, will be showcased, as plans are "still being hashed out" when it comes to the studio's theatrical content.

The trade adds: "Warner Bros. Discovery’s presence at Comic-Con is intended to reassure fans that the company still has them top of mind, even as the merger remakes executive ranks and aligns the company’s divisions — including HBO Max, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC — in a new direction."

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 will run from Thursday, July 21, to Sunday, July 24. Do you plan on attending? Drop us a comment down below.
