THE WONDER TWINS: Warner Bros. Rumored To Have Scrapped HBO Max Movie Despite Recently Casting Leads

Despite KJ Apa and Isabel May recently being cast as the movie's leads, a new report suggests Warner Bros. has pulled the plug on HBO Max movie, The Wonder Twins. Find more details after the jump!

According to That Hashtag Show (who aren't quite as trustworthy as they once were, but still drop the occasional accurate scoop), The Wonder Twins HBO Max movie has been scrapped.

The crew was reportedly told about the news earlier this week, and this comes before cameras could start rolling on the DC Comics adaptation. No reason for the movie's cancellation has been revealed, though the recent merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery has led to plans being changed for several upcoming projects.

The Wonder Twins was always an odd addition to the DCEU slate. While it would have had a lower budget as a direct-to-HBO Max movie, excitement for this one has been relatively low among fans and not even recent casting news did much to build hype (Riverdale star KJ Apa and 1883's Isabel May were recently tapped to play Zan and May, respectively).

Black Adam writer Adam Sztykiel was set to write and direct the team-up that would have featured a comedic tone. In the comic books, Zan is a watery shapeshifter, while Jayna can transform into an animal. Hailing from the planet Exxor, they were orphaned during a plague and gained a pet in Gleek the Space Monkey. Travelling to Earth to warn the Justice League about the villainous Grax, they blended into life on Earth by posing as Swedish exchange students.

The two Gotham City High School students have made a number of appearances over the years, including in Teen Titans Go!, Smallville, and The Flash

Discovery is looking to make some changes to how Warner Bros. develops its DC slate, and it's about time as their efforts have been very hit-and-miss in recent years (for every hit like The Batman, there's a let-down such as Wonder Woman 1984). We'll keep you updated on The Wonder Twins.
