Back in June, a report that Ben Affleck, who can currently be seen as Batman (likely for the last time) in The Flash, was spotted on the set of Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 did the rounds online.
Since it's been confirmed that the R-rated threequel is going to include a bit of Multiversal madness, this understandably led to speculation that Affleck might be set to make an appearance as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and the news that Jennifer Garner's Elektra will be involved only added fuel to the fire.
However, according to insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Affleck won't be showing up as the Man Without Fear after all.
Affleck returning as Daredevil always did seem unlikely, since the actor has never looked back particularly fondly on his time as the Hell's Kitchen vigilante That said, he's always had a sense of humor about it at the same time, so a fun cameo wouldn't have been too big a stretch.
We do know that Deadpool 3 is going to be quite similar to The Flash when it comes to its Multiverse elements, with Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Logan) dropping in on various alternate realities and timelines. Even if Affleck's take on Murdock doesn't appear, it sounds like a lot of other cameos have been lined up, including several X-Men characters (Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey among them), and possibly even Channing Tatum and Taylor Kitsch as different Variants of Gambit.
Several Variants of the Merc With a Mouth are also rumored to appear, including Dogpool, Kidpool, Lady Deadpool, and more.
What do you make of this update? Were you looking forward to seeing Affleck back in the costume as Daredevil, or were you always sceptical about his potential return? Drop us a comment down below.
Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), whose roles are still under wraps.
Plot details also remain a mystery for now, but Wade and Wolvie are expected to find themselves (trapped?) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A recent report claimed that Loki's TVA, including Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Miss Minutes, will be involved. We have also been led to believe that Wade's MCU debut will be far more integral to Phase 5 and beyond than we first realized.
Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3, which is set to hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
