DEADPOOL Becomes the #1 X-MEN Film in the Franchise

Ironically, the best X-Men film doesn’t have the X-men, nor AN X-man in the lead. Instead, it has an ultraviolet-cancerous-assassin as the protagonist and only one official X-man and one trainee in the supporting roles.

With weekend estimates finalizing, it seems as though Deadpool will break another record. The R rated film will be in 1st place, dethroning the most recent X-men film, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The violent film had previously ejected the whole X-Men franchise domestically, creating a $115 million gap between itself and the second place movie, X-men: The Last Stand. As for worldwide, Deadpool will reap an outstanding estimated $750 million dollars by the end of this weekend, while Days of Future past had garnered $747.9 million for its run. Although Deadpool has been released since February and beaten out the X-men franchise, it is still not finished accumulating money. The film is yet to premiere in Japan, which will be released on June 1st.

Without a doubt, Deadpool and 20th Century Fox will be looking for sequels which will make both the studio and audience very happy.

Deadpool will be realeased on DVD and Bluray on May 10th

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when evil scientist Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Congratulations to those involved. Can't believe they made all of that cash on a 58 million budget.

Just saw this last night. It was very solid. I see now what people mean when they say it feels more like the X-men than any of the X-men movies. I especially like the part where Wade makes the joke about the studio only paying for two x-men.

I'm of the minority opinion that Deadpool can still be Deadpool and great without the need for the R rated stuff, but maybe that;s just me. Heck maybe that's irrelevant.

Should the title here read "#1 X-men film in THE franchise"?

Well, whaddya know?

The only X-Movie that has comic accurate characterization of the main characters is the best.

It's not exactly rocket science, is it?

I'm looking at you WB and Fox.

Was waiting for this to happen, well deserved! Still crazy to realize that an R-rated solo debut with a more limited release and less than a third of the budget beat the X-event-movie DOFP...!
