Wade Wilson won't make his official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut until Deadpool 3, but we did recently get a fun little teaser when The Merc With a Mouth appeared alongside Thor's pal Korg in a short Free Guy promo video.
Now, Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he initially pitched Disney on a slightly darker crossover!
"I wanted to do a short film of Deadpool interrogating the hunter who killed Bambi's mom," the actor explained to IGN. "But the whole gist of it is that Deadpool is actually just a huge fan. He's not interrogating – he just wants to know how he could be the most loathed Disney character in the history of Disney... and of course, Disney was like, 'well, I don't think that's ever going to happen.'"
This sounds like it might have been hilarious, but it's probably not too surprising that Disney wasn't keen on the idea of Wade sitting down with a character who was responsible for traumatizing an entire generation of children... and telling him he's a fan of his work!
Thankfully, the Mouse House was more responsive to the Korg idea, and Reynolds reached out to actor and Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi to get the go-ahead.
"Then we came back to them – we wrote the Deadpool-Korg piece... and we sent it to them, and they said, 'yes!'," Reynolds said. "So, my next call was to Taika [Waititi] and Taika was in... Taika's an actual genius so I was thrilled to collaborate with him as this kind of character."
Reynolds and Waititi will appear together in Free Guy, which is set to hit theaters on August 13. Be sure to check back later today for our review.
