DEADPOOL 3 Star Ryan Reynolds Says There's A "70%" Chance The Threequel Starts Shooting Next Year

Deadpool 3 is one of the most highly anticipated movies heading our way from Marvel Studios, and Ryan Reynolds has now shared a big update that bodes well for the Merc with the Mouth's MCU future...

With Ryan Reynolds doing the rounds to promote Free Guy, he's faced quite a few Deadpool 3 questions; however, Collider has managed to get the biggest update yet about the threequel's status. Despite not having an officially announced director, it sounds like the Marvel Studios movie (it feels good to call it that) will start shooting as soon as next year!

Asked about the chances of cameras rolling in 2022, Reynolds responded: "The percentage chance? I don’t know. I couldn’t assign a percentage to that. I’d say it’s 50/50 maybe? We’re really actively developing it and getting it into pretty good shape. What the hell month is it? August? Oh next year? Probably pretty damn good. I’d say 70%."

That's amazing news, and the actor went on to confirm that he's been working with the writing team of Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin (likely meaning he'll at least have a "Story by" credit).

"It’s something that is just a daily process," Reynolds added. "Writing is kind of like that, you’ve gotta allot time to do it and walk away, and I’m working with the Molyneuxs on it, it’s been great. They’re incredibly talented and so, so smart. They so understand that world and know how to zig when everyone’s expecting a zag, so it’s been a lot of fun."

That's the second time Reynolds has made that zig-zag comment, so it definitely feels like Deadpool 3 will head to some different places and may not be the movie we necessarily expect to see. Ultimately, the important thing for most fans is that the Merc with the Mouth joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe; despite the R-Rating, it's impossible to imagine that not being the case.

When Marvel Studios does share its Phase 5 slate, here's hoping Deadpool 3 is on it, eh?

@Frshcoupe - as long as the next 'perlumutter' doesn't get himself put in charge at disney i can see this totally happening. the dude that pushed for BW to be released on Disney+ sounds like a perlmutter and responded as one to the lawsuit.

It'd be hilarious if they announced its releasing tomorrow. Really sounds like Reynolds would pull something like that.

Deadpool in the MCU is a dream come true. We’ve come a longggg way from X-Men Origins lol

Deadpool is that one of the kind self-aware/fourth wall breaking character that can merge Foxverse and MCU together. So ... yeah ... it should be interesting.

I read somewhere that She Hulk in tv show is also that kind of character.
Team-Up ?

@jerryblake - She-Hulk/Deadpool team up? Sounds like you’ve been reading my dream diary

@jerryblake - The TVA storyline, Wanda's nexus and lady Loki is what will bring the Foxverse into the MCU... Deadpool will only be there to make fun of it.

It would be fun to see Machine Man or Puck in the next Deadpool movie.

Also, I want to see the comic costume.

Honest question: Do you guys think Hollywood will finally start to scale back some of these ridiculous budgets going forward as it seems the American box office is essentially on death's door?

China will continue to be #1 at the box office for the foreseeable future and streaming seems to be the only way going forward in North America with indefinite lockdowns looming. Hollywood can really keep producing $300 million dollar movies just to have them released on streaming services, can they?

@Feralwookiee - I don't think Deadpool will be very expensive, but I do hope some more movies will have lower budgets.

Didn't even like that big-big budget anyway. Makes it feel like an invite to just go full CGI super hyped over the top third act.

JonC - 8/5/2021, 2:25 PM
@Feralwookiee - i don't think they will cut back the budgets (e.g. try to make something huge like endgame for $100 million), i think they may just to choose to make more movies that don't require huge budgets (e.g. like the original Deadpool was made, on the cheap).

Feralwookiee - 8/5/2021, 3:43 PM
@JonC - Right. I think that's the route they're gonna have to take in the future. Less or no "event" films.

@bkmeijer - Good point and I guess my question doesn't really pertain to Deadpool; it's just more of a Cbm question in general I guess.

Comedy overkill. Keep Deadpool separate in a multiverse situation. He was created in the 90's comics because sales were down and his 4th wall breaks were new and amusing. The current MCU is already amusing and really doesn't need to be made fun of to be relevant. I enjoy both Deadpool movies...in that universe. But Feige has worked hard to create a 'real' fantasy world and having a character discuss actors and studios and contracts, simply destroys that universe. I love Ryan Reynolds and his take on Deadpool and I hope they find a way to incorporate him without damaging what they have built. It's the difference of you feel watching 'Endgame' and 'Ragnarok'... one makes you feel, the other does does not.

Menks123 - 8/5/2021, 4:51 PM
@rychlec - I'd rather have Deadpool do his thing within this universe :)

I also "felt" during both Ragnarok and Endgame, so idk what that last part means.
rychlec
rychlec - 8/5/2021, 5:15 PM
@Menks123 - That's cool. But did 'Ragnarok' have the same emotional impact as 'Endgame'? Taika and 'Deadpool' undermine what is a brilliantly thought-out world.

@rychlec - I could not disagree more. The MCU is literally ripe as [frick] for the Merc to make fun of.

@Menks123 - I felt angry after End Game. Thor and Hulk were straight butchered. Thanos was a far cry from the char he was in IW.

Deadpool is 'Airplane', "Scary Movie' and "Not Another Teen Movie". I truly do like the character but not at the expense of everything else.
