DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE Gets Hilariously Unserious New Synopsis

Following today's new teaser and poster, Marvel Studios has shared an updated synopsis for Deadpool and Wolverine, and it's definitely... on brand!

Marvel debuted a new 60-second promo (check it out here) and poster for Deadpool and Wolverine earlier today when tickets went on sale, and we now have an updated synopsis for the studio's "most significant mistake to date."

We've seen a few different versions (most likely placeholders for merchandizing purposes) of this logline already, but this is by far the most unserious yet!

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," it reads. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

It seems clear that the marketing for D&W is going to take the piss at every given opportunity, but during a 2023 interview with AP News, director Shawn Levy indicated that the movie - like the previous Deadpool films - will also have its share of dramatic moments.

"It’s a really interesting duo. They’re built for huge conflict with each other because they’re so different individually. But that makes for a very interesting story, because the best two hander stories, whether it’s Midnight Run or 48 Hours or Planes, Trains and Automobiles, yes, it’s littered with conflict. But it’s ultimately about something more as well and that’s what audiences will see."

“The real benefit of being friends off set is that you can try crazy stuff without fear of falling," he continued. "Because some of it won’t work and that will be momentarily embarrassing, but if you’re among friends, it’s okay to make a fool of yourself in the pursuit of something surprising and something unexpected,” Levy said. “This movie is filled with moments, both comedic and character based, that we didn’t expect and were the result of a freedom that that came from being friends.”

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine will see Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The movie is set to open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26, and will be available in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD and premium screens everywhere.

Just don't go over the top with cameos/varience cameos and 4th wall breaking boys.

@lazlodaytona - I felt it worked for 2 because of the cast size, but hopefully this doesn't turn into OG MK II. Well it won't, not literally...the 90's were a magical place, and time.

@TheMetaMan - I sure hope not.
I like a good multi-verse comic/story as anyone else but it has to be handled delicately and with purpose with no overkill. Not just to make a possibility of another story or course correct
DC or MARVEL

@lazlodaytona - Too late now, haven't they finished the movie.

Anyway if there is a slight possibility that I'm going to see Wolverine Vs The Hulk then bring on the cameos.

@The1st - Well great, cause of your comment I'm now gonna be disappointed if there isn't a scene where Wolverine says to DP "DP you're ALIVE?!" and DP responds with "Too bad, YOU will DIE!" LOL

As far as the dramatic,I've seen a lot of folks get emotional during the end of Deadpool 2 (Wade and Vanessa's brief reunion in the afterlife); if you can pull it off, gotta go for it. Though his overly long death scene just killed the joke. Even from the trailer, seems like they can easily pull off the emotional beat for Wolverine too (especially depending on who cameos). I imagine the movie will end either way with Wade having to say goodbye to his world and those he loves, so should certainly be doable.

@IAmAHoot - I think that’s what makes these DP movies work

Underneath the all the Rated R ness of it is a lot of heart otherwise DP is a character that could get annoying quick if it’s nothing but jokes.

The humor is there to mask his pain.
TheMetaMan

@IAmAHoot - I’ve always never had an issue with how the Deadpool movies balance humour and emotional resonance. It’s always worked for me. Vanessa served as the emotional anchor in the first film, whilst the fat fire kid (I forgot his name) served as the EA in the second film, therefore Logan will fill this role in the third. Humour can be a tricky thing to stabilise it depends on the character and story. The afterlife scene in DP2 was emotional satisfying for me.

@TheVisionary25 - Why I've loved films like the DP's and GotG's, even when there were obvious flaws and/or not all the jokes landed, and not the Antman's...

...can get away with a lot of comedy, sillyness etc if you feel it is a mask for underlying issues which they tended to pull off in the main with DP/GotG but for me failed to do so at all with Antman even when they tried to.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 5/20/2024, 2:41 PM
@Apophis71 - that’s fair , I guess it’s a preference thing

To me the Ant Man films have this DNA of something like the Fantastic Four where is this lighter family friendly esque adventure franchise that can get dramatic

There’s room for both I feel.

@TheVisionary25 - Oh for sure, just cos I'm not a fan I'm not going to rain on the parade of those who are. I can completely get why some would love Antman, and I did like his first film, but different strokes for different folks and all that jazz

Lol , that’s fun and seems like DP wrote it himself hence why it works…

Anyway , sounds cool but I am interested to find out why Wade left the costumed life behind in this?.

There’s apparently a rumor going around that reveals the reason and if it’s true , I can certainly understand it (won’t reveal it).

They have some great inspirations for two-hander stories and the chemistry is certainly there to deliver so looking forward to it!!

It's because Foggy Nelson died.

Wait, that's a different red-costumed hero.

Sorry.

Get x-23 involved. That'd be awesome.

@GaruVonDoom -

Too early to pull the plug, mate. Give it a month or so, or when the first leaks about cameos come out. I usually go dark the moment I see a piece of news about a confirmed surprise or plot detail.

The trolls of Endgame sure were something...

@marvel72 - I truly believe....
That if Reynolds and Jackman to, to a lesser extent, is mostly running things this film will be epic.

The no cocaine part bothers me tho. The mouse at the head still wants 1,000 percent control. 😝
