It sounds like Deadpool and Wolverine may have even more surprises in store than we realize.
We've been hearing about potential character cameos for some time now, and while several have been confirmed - Elektra, the Deadpool Variants, Pyro, etc - others such as X-Men characters Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey, as well as Channing Tatum and Taylor Kitsch as different Variants of Gambit, Liev Schreiber's Sabertooth and Dafne Keen's X23 remain in the rumor file.
During an interview with Variety, Dopinder actor Karan Soni was asked if he could reveal any new details about the Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut, and while he stayed tight-lipped about specifics, he did suggest that the movie is going to feature a lot of characters.
“This new MCU version is ultra-secretive,” he said – but teased. “There are a lot of surprises. Let’s just say a lot of people traveled to London.”
Soni also revealed that Ryan Reynolds has wanted Hugh Jackman to be a part of the franchise since Deadpool 2, and was trying to figure out ways of making their team-up happen while shooting the sequel.
“When we were making the second one, Ryan was plotting back then,” said the actor. “I remember him spilling that at lunch one day that he had started a conversation with Hugh. I remember saying, ‘People are going to flip out!’ Then the studio got sold to Disney and a lot of other stuff happened. But, of course, Ryan followed through because it was dream casting.”
Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Cassandra Nova (not confirmed).
A recent synopsis for the movie reads: "After facing some professional setbacks while going through a midlife crisis, Wade Wilson decides to officially retire Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the whole world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement," the synopsis continues. "He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine to not only fight for their survival, but ultimately, their legacy."
Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.
