Deadpool & Wolverine's latest trailer was packed full of cameos, including a few Variants (Azazel! Lady Deathstrike! Toad!) we didn't expect to see again.
Those won't be the movie's only surprises, of course, because plenty of other Marvel characters are also expected to appear. The trades have already confirmed Daredevil star Jennifer Garner will be back as Elektra, while multiple social media scoopers have named Channing Tatum's Gambit and Dafne Keen's X-23 as being among the many other possibilities.
The latter makes sense after Logan (the actress being 19 means we can see now her as a full-fledged superhero), while Tatum missed out on playing Gambit after 20th Century Fox's repeated attempts to get a solo movie off the ground failed.
Today, scooper @MyTimeToShineH is claiming to have news on all three characters.
Apparently, Elektra, Gambit, and X-23 are all members of a resistance group that's assembled in The Void to fight back against Cassandra Nova and the villains who surround her.
We don't have any additional details beyond that, but with Nova clearly making herself at home at the end of time, it makes sense that the heroic Variants stranded there would look to fight back against a woman who lives in Giant-Man's skull.
The scooper has also claimed Cassandra takes pleasure in killing Professor X's Variants, likely explaining why she steps out of his wheelchair in the threequel's trailer (if you'd like to learn more about the villain, you can read our guide here).
As for that portal, there are rumblings the psychic is using a sling ring taken from a dead Doctor Strange Variant who, in his reality, was Sorcerer Supreme.
Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.
The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.
Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.
