Marvel Studios took 9 minutes of Deadpool & Wolverine footage to CinemaCon and, among the biggest reveals, was a shot of Chris Hemsworth's Thor mourning the fallen Merc with the Mouth.
As we write this, it's unclear whether that's archival footage which has been edited for those scenes in the TVA or a legit cameo from the MCU's God of Thunder.
Either way, we expect this movie to feature some familiar faces and, if a new rumour shared by scooper @CanWeGetToast is to be believed, then an MCU veteran will also appear: Jon Favreau's Happy Hogan. We don't have any additional details about what role he'll play in Deadpool & Wolverine, but the actor did also once play Foggy Nelson in Daredevil, so consider us intrigued.
Favreau first played Happy in 2008's Iron Man and became a staple of that franchise before being made a key supporting player in Jon Watts' Spider-Man trilogy. He's also appeared in Avengers: Endgame and as several Happy Hogan Variants in What If...?
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy recently sat down for a conversation with People and revealed that it was way back in 2011, on the set of Real Steel, that Hugh Jackman first put Ryan Reynolds on his radar.
"Hugh said, 'For what it’s worth, if you ever meet and work with Ryan Reynolds, you’re never going to stop,'" he recalled. "That was 2010. Hugh Jackman, the prophet - a little-known special talent."
By that point, Jackman and Reynolds had shared the screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as Logan and a version of Wade Wilson we'd rather forget. When Levy eventually met the Deadpool star, they formed an instant connection. "We just had an ease with each other," he said. "But it really, really manifested on our first time [sitting] down to talk about Free Guy."
"It was a script that was about video gaming, but we had other themes and messages in mind. And we just connected in terms of wanting to give audiences a movie that transports them, makes them laugh and isn’t embarrassed about being big-hearted."
Shawn Levy will direct both actors in Deadpool & Wolverine, a movie which also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.
The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.
Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.
