Filmmaker Shawn Levy has worked with both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on multiple occasions, including in Free Guy. However, the latter only had a voice cameo, and despite multiple teases and a lot of trolling online, the two actors haven't shared the screen since X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Levy, who was recently confirmed as the director of Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3, told ComicBook.com that he hopes to reunite Reynolds and Jackman...at some point in the not too distant future.
"I'm not going to say where and how, but I absolutely will confirm my intention and determination to be the lucky son of a b*tch who puts those two magnificent gods in the same movie together," he exclaimed prior to the Deadpool 3 news breaking. "That will happen and that will be me."
Reynolds was also asked about the possibility of reuniting with Jackman in a movie, but this time specifically regarding the next instalment in the Deadpool franchise. "That would be amazing. I say write to Kevin Feige, care of Marvel Cinematic Universe at whatever Buena Vista Way. I don't know where it is, but yeah, that would be nice. That would be a dream. That would be dream come true."
Is it a tad too optimistic to hope that Levy and Reynolds are already working on bringing Jackman into the MCU? While the actor has made it clear he's looking to move on from playing Wolverine after Logan, there's nothing to say he couldn't play another character, especially if the Merc with the Mouth is getting a fresh start courtesy of Marvel Studios. Heck, we'd bet on him making a great T-Ray!
Ultimately, it's probably going to depend on what Marvel Studios has planned for Wolverine and whether Jackman can finally be convinced to return to a comic book world and join Reynolds.
Deadpool 3 currently has no release date.
