Graphic Nudity? Yes, Please! DEADPOOL Is (Obviously) Officially Rated R By The MPAA

It's hardly a surprise that Deadpool has been rated R, but what has the Merc with the Mouth done to earn that? Based on this description from the MPAA, it sounds like the highly anticipated movie barely missed out on that dreaded NC-17 rating! Hit the jump for details...

When Ryan Reynolds (who is producing as well as starring in Deadpool) and company made the decision to make the movie as an R-Rated release, it meant that they would have a significantly lower budget than every other superhero blockbuster. However, knowing it's what fans wanted, they've stuck by that decision and - hopefully - made the Deadpool fans have wanted to see for years now. So, what did the good ol' Merc with the Mouth do to earn that? Well. it's rated "R" for, "strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity." All of that was to be expected, and it's going to be interesting to see if this unique approach to the movie works. Is Deadpool just too weird to bring in moviegoers or the kick in the ass that the genre needs? We'll find out early next month. For now, be sure to weigh in with your thoughts in the usual place.

Some sites are already estimating a $75 million opening weekend but thats gonna be tough with an R and borderline NC-17 rating!

I can't help but think this movie will be another Dredd. It's looks like a lot of fun and it may exceed our expectations, but I don't see it making a dent at the BO, especially when you have these PG superhero and Star Wars movies that whole families can go see coming out every month.

Not a lot of people can afford to go to the movies this often, and spending $10 on an R movie that you kids can't see is a turn off for many. I'll probably see it at a late show by myself while the family is home asleep.

Regardless of the BO numbers, I hope the critics and audiences like it. If it makes any profit, studios may be more willing to adapt the more adult titles. This is the first Marvel movie that I think was made without the sole intention of making a $1 billion.
