OFFICIAL: Deadpool Movie a Done Deal!

It's official: The mutants are taking over Hollywood. And we're not talking about the freaks running the studios.

Following the monster weekend for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and a day after announcing that a Hugh Jackman-powered sequel is in the works, 20th Century Fox has confirmed to E! News that Jackman's costar Ryan Reynolds will be given his own spinoff and potential franchise-launcher as the Marvel Comics antihero Deadpool.

The 32-year-old Canadian actor, otherwise known as Mr. Scarlett Johansson, will again star as Wade Wilson, a wisecracking, cancer-stricken mercenary who's cured of the disease after undergoing the same Weapon X genetic alteration as Wolverine.

But along with superhuman powers, enhanced strength and self-regenerating healing powers, the slightly unhinged Deadpool can absorb the abilities of dead and captured mutants.

Aside from Deadpool and the Wolverine sequel, Fox is also working on an X-Men spinoff focusing on Ian McKellen's villainous Magneto and another dubbed X-Men: First Class, which is being written by The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz.

well, we all knew it was coming. and if they play it right, this will be the biggest thing since TDK. We all know that a Deadpool movie, would possibly be one of Marvel's most "darkest" comicbook movie. and "darker" sells.

theyre trying to make him a little "nicer", if you know what i mean lol they dont want him to just kill people because hes supposed to be the hero of the movie. They want him to show off his powers instead of being a stylized Punisher movie...

I just thought they added those powers in him in the lab

Although I am excited to see a Deadpool movie, it's not going to be the biggest thing since TDK. I'd be surprised if it pools as much in as Wolverine is going to. Deadpool is not maintstream. And it took 3 X-Men movies to get a solo movie for Wolverine. Think Ghost Rider numbers.

I always knew DP was one of the few Marvel characters to be 'Rejected by Death' but I have not heard shit or seen in comics this absorbing powers crap.

Thorben is right, DP has more of a cult fanbase. While there will certainly be rabid fans piling in for this, he isn't a widely known character outside of our world. Even a person who has never read a comic knows about Captain America or Spiderman. Though he was associated with and established in Wolverine, so that may help it out. I for one will see it twice :) to make up for one asshole who says, "Who the [frick] is Deadpool?"

Maybe who ever wrote that got confused by the fact that weapon XI "deadpool" had the powers of the captured/killed mutants ("Deadpool can absorb the abilities of dead and captured mutants.")

they may butcher the whole powers thing, but have to admit that reynolds is about as perfect for Deadpool as possible

Reynolds knows the character, and being that the whole movie will revolve around him, i'm sure he won't let them get away with this

I wouldn't mind if he kept John Wraith's teleportation, Deadpool had a device that allowed him to teleport. But the whole absorbing powers thing has got to be a misunderstanding.

Instead of making DP Mimic, they should just introduce MIMIC! Ive liked mimic since he stared in Exiles.

okay wait? does that mean they are starting over with deadpool. they said "will again star as Wade Wilson, a wisecracking, cancer-stricken mercenary who's cured of the disease after undergoing the same Weapon X genetic alteration as Wolverine."
sssoooo does that mean they are starting with wade wilson from the begining and going into deadpool for this spinoff or are they taking right off from XMO:W.
deadpool able to asborb other powers?! come on! in Wolverine barakapool had the optic blast and that was WAY to much among other things.

The premise sounds as retarded as Wolverine and half as retarded as a Wolverine sequel, but goddamn if I wouldn't love to see Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool for an hour and forty-five minutes.

Isn't there a character called the absorbing man already?? I just hope they do a costume. You know these stupid Hollywood types... You can't see the actors face and everyone should know who they are. They always kill the comic movies like this. Costumes are non realistic they say. Yet mutants, Batman and Superman, flying, super strength and all that is okay. I agree that Reynolds fits the role. I once heard he may be up for the Flash.

Hey LiquidSnake, wanna know a cool tidbit about your pic? The cover-art picture of Snake for the original Metal Gear game for NES was drawn from a picture of Kyle Reese (from "The Terminator"). Interesting random fact.

I think this movie will be a HUGE hit. One reason. BECAUSE HE'S SO [frick]ING COOL LOOKING. I'll tell you right now if I didn't know anything at all about comics and I saw a character that looked like deadpool, you bet your sweet ass I'm seeing that movie. Hes just soo damn cool looking, theres no way it could fail..financially that is.

I'm thinking that with the right publicity and allowing none comic fans know that Dead Pool is Wade Wilson from XMO:Wolverine then the turn out would most likely be as good as XMO:Wolverine, it would draw in the fan base of the x-men movies, and come on Wade was a B.A in the begining of Wolverine.

It sounded cool until they said " he absorbs the powers of dead or captured??? mutants" first of all he doesn't do and second of all how does " capturing" a mutant then allow him to absorb their power. Who ever he puts handcuffs on he can absorb their power???

It also sounds possibly good because if the movie is about Deadpool, Ryan Renolds will be able to drive the characters roots more.

I didn't think what they did to Deadpool in Wolverine was that bad because it makes sense. Deadpool was an experiment of another mutants power (Wolverine) so they made it more epic for the movie by making him an experiment for a bunch of powers because he's so awesome Striker wanted to control him. But that's just me, I didn't read the Origins comics.

I like Gambit but the one in the movie sucked major monkey A$$ no accent, no eyes, powers were wtf-ish so if they make a gambit movie they gotta fix him first. till then DEADPOOL!!!

SuperFlyinPwrs
SuperFlyinPwrs - 5/6/2009, 9:40 PM
NOOOOO! Redo redo. No tie-ins to the 4th Wolverine movie. I know that Deadpool was just a minor character in Wolverine and was not about his background in any way, so why f*ck up Deadpool in his own movie. Screw the Wolverine's Deadpool, I wanna see the REAL Deadpool on the big screen. Not an evil Baraka from mortal kombat cracking jokes through a torn mouth.
JamesH
JamesH - 5/6/2009, 9:49 PM
Hahaha... this is really funny.

Wolverine Origins couldve been a great shuttle to prep him for noncomic readers instead they butchered the character so much that it didnt resemble the original character in any way. Now they're gonna make a DP movie with a whole different look and set of powers? New fans will be puzzled and hardcore fans will be pissed.

Great work FOX!
