It's been 2 months since fans of the 90's classic got a look at the teaser trailer for the much anticipated Rescue Rangers sequel/reboot. Now, Disney has revealed the full trailer for the live action/animated hybrid film that sees the titular characters, Chip and Dale, reteaming to solve a mystery involving disappearing cartoon characters.
It's revealed early in the trailer that the brothers have suffered a falling out after the cancelling of their hit show, and life has taken the two beloved chipmunks down drastically different paths. Dale is hitting the convention circuit and banking on his surviving fame, while the always more pragmatic Chip has settled down in a stable 9-5 and is working as an insurance agent.
The bothers' lives are disrupted as they are called upon to assist in a policy investigation involving a number of missing cartoon characters. They'll have to put aside their differences and reconcile whatever past issues drove them apart in an attempt to stop whatever dastardly villain is behind these disappearances.
Eagle eyed fans will be able to spot several high profile animated characters throughout the trailer, including Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon), Lumiere (Beauty and the Beast), Flounder (The Little Mermaid), Sneezy (Snow White), and many more. Beyond the specific characters are also more subtle nods, including a live action sentient car that is clearly a reference to Disney/Pixar's Cars series, and dozens of animation styles harkening back to various different decades and mediums.
Chip and Dale will be voiced Andy Samberg and John Mulaney (respectively) in what appears to be a very self aware, very tongue-on-cheek take on the cartoon detectives. Chip'N'Dale: Rescue Rangers will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on May 20th.
