Comcast Reportedly Giving Up On Fox's Assets Leaving Disney Free To Bring The X-MEN And FANTASTIC FOUR Home

With Comcast setting its sights on acquiring Sky, the company is moving on from attempting to purchase Fox which leaves the door wide open for Disney to complete the deal, making Marvel fans very happy!

In news which will almost certainly make fans of the Fantastic Four and X-Men very happy, it's been revealed today that Comcast is backing off Fox's assets as the company instead focuses its attention on buying British pay-TV giant Sky Television. CNBC is reporting that Comcast is unlikely to increase its $65 billion bid, meaning Disney is free and clear to buy 21st Century Fox's assets for $71.3 billion.

It's still a rather complicated situation because Fox currently owns 39% of Sky and the company is looking to purchase the remaining 61%. However, Comcast obviously wants that too and Disney was banking on having the entire 100% (chances are that they will be happy with that 39% along with Fox's other assets). The movie studio is the biggest draw as that gives Disney 40% of the box office.

Disney now has the higher bid and approval from the Justice Department so things are looking good for the X-Men and Fantastic Four coming home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney and
Fox shareholders are set to vote on the deal on July 27th and from there, it will hopefully be a case of just counting down the months (well, years) until we see The Avengers meet new versions of those heroes!

@emeraldtaurus - Nah F4 needs it more, the upcoming X-Men slate looks interesting. Homecoming was "okay", not as good as Raimi's 1&2. I fear the X-men may get turned into a bunch of young millennials on instagram, twitter, and facebook taking selfies like the MCU's Peter Parker. Problem I have with the current MCU are their films (Homecoming, Antman&Wasp, Thor Ragnarok, Dr. Strange etc.) have mostly been "action-comedies" that don't take their plots seriously. X-men deviates from the source too but they are more serious. The tone of the x-men should be serious like cloak&dagger and The Runaways TV Show (basically what Bryan Singer did).

@mastakilla39 - F4 was done 3 times already. Lookin forward to a more comic faithful X-men...in particular Wolverine! Doubt they'll g with the "Millennials" coz that's what Kinberg has done with Dark Phoenix...and rumour has it that sucks to death and is close to be sh!t-canned! Disney/Marvel would not allow such a coveted franchise to get off on the wrong foot...especially after going 15 rounds with Comcast to get the darn thing back in the first place! . either was ....lookin forward to it.

@Josh Wilding - I find this whole mess with Disney, Comcast, and Fox confusing. Based on Deadline articles, I believe a Fox shareholder is suing to stop the merger with Disney because of false profit projections. He learned of this info after Comcast backed out of the deal because of Fox's total debt was larger than anticipated, not because they could not outbid Disney. Then Murdoch is also looking to purchase the rest of Sky's stock, so wouldn't that be added to Disney's debt if they are purchasing all of Fox except for their Sport's network?

Would love an article summarizing everything as of now. Thanks!

Well, fans of good comic book cinema seems more appropriate but I agree with the sentiment. This is good news for CBM's no matter how you slice it.

Now reboot the bloody X-men, Feige!

@Humperdink - It hasn't really set in for me yet that we're getting these properties back, and arguably at the perfect time. Instead of blowing their wad with all of their popular characters at the beginning, it seems like we'll be getting doses of it throughout the entire franchise. Right when they started giving us some B and C-listers, they get Spider-Man back. Now that he's been around for a while, boom, we get the X-Men and Fantastic Four back.
