The story of "Cinderella" follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella's father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella's hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and -- armed with a pumpkin and a few mice -- changes Cinderella's life forever.

If they're going young for Carol Danvers, then I would like to throw Lily James into the mix. Emily Blunt or Natalie Dormer though >>>

Also, Mr. Robb Stark would make a good Richard Rider.

I mean it's Cinderella, there is only so many times you can tell that dreadful story. I'm not sure if this movie has a different take on it?

But I hope so because if not... what is the point of telling a story we all know with nothing new :/

I want to see Helena Bonham-Carter as the fairy godmother. The description sounds trite and uninteresting.

Most girls I know end up like Cinderella ...not the finding Prince Charming and living in a palace part, but leaving club with one shoe on, disoriented and their clothes in tatters...

I know this is about to be mind blowing and hard to believe for most of the people who decided to comment here, but you do know you aren't being forced to click on the article or go and see the movie right?

I'll probably take my niece to see this, she allows me to go see films I secretly want to watch but are considered for "small children" :)

Let me guest, Cinderella is going to find true love with a woman realizing that love only lies between two women, and not snotty men. Yeah, that's what Disney has turned into-a bunch of whiny feminist.

I'm excited for this! Just hope they don't follow Maleficent and turn the evil Stepmother and stepsisters into anti-heroes, that'll be irritating as fk. I still love Ever After though.

@DatGuy

That would actually be an improvement on the original story. Not every girl should be taught the fantasy that a man is a prince and she'll live happily ever after.

As a feminist myself, I find the notion of giving young girls these fantasies entirely unhelpful in dealing with real life and relationships.

Disney did it the right way with Malificent and I hope I'm wrong about Cinderella, but the description and trailer seems to indicate otherwise.

Oh, stop your whining people. For quite some time, CBM has reported on movies that are technically not comic book movies. Some of them are very in line with the common tastes of comic book fans (Star Wars, etc.) while others like this are within the fantasy genre. It's directed by Kenneth Branagh who did Thor and features a Game of Thrones actor so there are links to two things that many people here are fans of. If you're not interested in an article, just don't read it.

Live action rubbish. Seriously..... this will flop badly and be fast-tracked to tv rapidly - just like the Pinewood-studios produced flop live action Snow White: 'Mirror-Mirror' did next to it's (similarly produced at Pinewood) sibling 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.
