During a virtual press event today, Walt Disney World announced that its new Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster will open in EPCOT in 2022. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction has taken the place of the slow-moving but informative Ellen's Energy Adventure located in the Universe of Energy Pavilion, which Disney also confirmed will now be known as the "Wonders of Xandar Pavilion."

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is described as a family-friendly adventure in which guests will embark on an intergalactic chase through space and time. The adventure begins within the Galaxarium, "a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar." Guests will learn more of Xandar's treasures before the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive and all chaos ensues.

Described as a "storytelling coaster," the attraction makes use of an OmniCoaster ride system with vehicles that can rotate 360 degrees and direct your eyes to the story happening around you. Rather than racing by the action, guests will be fully immersed with the story from the second they take off.

Speaking of take off, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will feature the first reverse launch on a coaster in Disney history. It's also one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world.

Walt Disney World is gearing up to celebrate its 50th anniversary, while the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind represents just a part of the ongoing transformation currently taking place at EPCOT.

Feels like a crime that we’re getting a coaster at Disney World covered in the Nova logo before ever actually seeing Richard or Sam on screen lol

But sounds interesting, used to like the Ellen ride as a kid but it will not be missed, this is certainly a much cooler use of that space. Fingers crossed I can add a “Xandarian” beverage to my next country crawl

@Waddles - That you sure are right about lol! Never really a line and always very refreshing ride to just sit back and cool down. Was a staple of my family trip, this last summer we replaced it instead with Saurin’ (which doesn’t have anywhere near the lines it used to lol)
Plus I did enjoy the Jeopardy part because Alex

I really wish Disney would do a new park dedicated to Marvel. Kind of like an Epcot but split into four main areas being Wakanda, Asgard, New York, and Xander. And the centerpiece being an Avengers tower.

@Waddles - Oh yeah. That's strictly for Orlando. Cali on the other hand is so small that they just did a tiny Avengers Campus.

Epcot feels like a weird place to put this ride, but I guess they want to giva that park an update. Would've made more sense to put it in the Studios park I think
