Kenneth Branagh Set To Direct “Artemis Fowl” Adaptation For Disney And TWC

The Artemis Fowl adaptation has been pitched as Die Hard meets Harry Potter. With Branagh possibly accepting this project it may seriously affect the chances of him reuniting with Marvel for Thor: Ragnarok

Branagh seems like a great choice for the project especially after bringing in $542 million worldwide with his adaptation of Cinderella for Disney.  The studio is now looking for a new writer as well.

The bestselling novel, written by Eoin Colfer in 2001, launched a successful series of books and a graphic novel adaptation.

“The fantasy series follows the brilliant and cunning 12-year-old eponymous criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, whose cunning plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People puts him directly in the cross-hairs of some of the most dangerous creatures on earth. Over the series, Fowl becomes a sort of anti-hero rather than a full-fledged villain, often having to work together with the fairies to stop a slew of treacherous megalomaniacs.”

With Branagh possibly involved with another franchise, it may take him out of the running to direct Marvel's upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.

Haha, it should be like this since it's Disney not Fox

When I was 14 I loved these books. Now I don't care what-so-ever. I'd love to be surprised and it be good.

That being said, Branagh should stick to Shakespeare.

He was never in the running for Thor: Ragnarok. Also I love the Artemis Fowl books and have been waiting for them to finally make a movie since like sixth grade!

@DrDoom

Yeah, it sounds like they could be pretty bad. I never read the books, I thought this might be relevant because of Branagh's involvement with Thor

It sounds like they have faith in the project though, there must be a pretty big fanbase. Jim Sheridan was interested in directing the movie back in 2011, which is pretty crazy because he is an A list director and a very serious director too

@agentzero That's a great idea since Asa Butterfield is now too old I could totally see David Mazouz in the role.
