LILO & STITCH Set Photos And Videos Reveal A First Look At Experiment 626's Stand-In

In the latest round of Lilo & Stitch set photos and videos (first shared on SFFGazette.com), Experiment 626 finally steps into the spotlight...or his stand-in does, at least.

The alien is going to be brought to life on screen with VFX, but as with most projects with a CG lead (Sonic the Hedgehog, for example) a physical stand-in is being used on set. Clearly inspired by how Stitch will appear in the movie itself, this is a very faithful take on the beloved character and a design we struggle to find fault with.

Stitch might be a little taller than anticipated, though other footage captured by a Hawaii resident lends credence to the possibility of this essentially being a shot-for-shot remake of the 2002 animated classic. Hopefully, we'll have some clearer images to share with you in due course.

Check out this new look at Lilo & Stitch in the Tweets below.

Joining Maia Kealoha as Lilo is Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as her sister and mother figure Nani. Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen have also joined the cast, with the prevailing theory online being that they're playing Jumba and Pleakley, respectively. Kaipot Dudoit, meanwhile, takes on the role of David Kawena, replacing Kahiau Machado.

Last month, we learned that Courtney B. Vance will bring Cobra Bubbles to life, while original Lilo & Stitch director, Chris Sanders, is expected to reprise his role as Stitch.

Lilo & Stitch is a tale of a young girl's close encounter with the galaxy's most wanted extraterrestrial. Lilo is a lonely Hawaiian girl who adopts a small ugly "dog," whom she names Stitch. Stitch would be the perfect pet if he weren't in reality a genetic experiment who has escaped from an alien planet and crash-landed on Earth.

Dean Fleischer Camp (Marcel the Shell with Shoes On) is directing Disney+'s Lilo & Stitch, while Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders, and Mike Van Waes are all expected to receive writing credits.

As of right now, Lilo & Stitch doesn't have an official release date.

Disney continues to commit CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY with these live action adaptations

@GhostDog - fwiw the director’s really good here, it’s the guy behind marcel the shell. Then again Lowry just did Peter Pan and as much as i loved green knight i couldn’t even make it through that

@GhostDog -

Agreed.

@tmp3 - A lot of these remakes have directors attached that I usually enjoy. However, their style is almost completely absent and it feels like some studio higher up is making all the decisions.

@tmp3 - I actually really liked his Peter Pan. It had a dark tragedy to it that I dug the hell out of. Pan was the villain lowkey, just like in the original story.

@GhostDog - i wanted to like it but it just wasn’t clicking for me and then an hour in just decided to stop. I’m excited for his next film though, adored green knight.

@HOTSHOT - i agree, but i do think he’s more exciting than rob marshall or another disney in-house guy. I hope this one slips through the cracks and does something exciting at least, marcel was a great family film

@GhostDog - for the record as I constantly tell older fans of transformers on seibertron.com and tfw2005.com nost of new fans don’t have kids ones who do have kids still do not watch cartoons they watch live action so live action is to bring in new fans to Disney will be correct to books and movies not always but will people who don’t watch cartoons like live action maybe get into Disney like it possibly.,

If stupid transformer fans had there way g1 was still around transformer may have died out like thunder cats did it’s movies brought back transformers popularity back again they be no beast wars, no Optimus fire truck toy if g1 was still around

@tmp3 - let's face it, it's corporate suits directing these remakes.

Disney is really lacking in the creativity department. As far as live action goes, nothing new has been created under the banner of Disney, it’s either been a remake of an already established cartoon or a ride/attraction that was turned into a movie.

@WruceBayne - yeah they could be putting out some original live action stuff and create the nostalgia franchises of the future. They've got some of the biggest creative minds over there, Iger should be taking pitches and writing cheques.

@IronDean2099 - I wonder if Tomorrowland scared them off from doing original stuff
SATW42
SATW42 - 5/18/2023, 2:36 PM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - I just don't think they have an interest in original live action anymore. Theyll let movies like "The Creator" come out under the 20th Century banner and leave the Disney banner pretty much to kids entertainment and remakes.

@WruceBayne - it's easier to market nostalgia or an existing IP. They don't want to take risks.
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 5/18/2023, 2:45 PM
@SATW42 - so basically animation can be new ideas live action can’t. Soo stupid
IronDean2099
IronDean2099 - 5/18/2023, 2:56 PM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - that was actually my exact thought too, except isn't it based on a ride or something? But yeah that's probably a part of it. But also, maybe don't put 200 million into a new property. And also have a good story.

@IronDean2099 - 100% AGREED. We don’t have any new potential classics.

Tomorrow Land was also based on a Disney World attraction wasn’t it?
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 5/18/2023, 4:37 PM
@HulkisHoly - was it? I honestly don’t know if so shit what was their last original one
RolandD
RolandD - 5/18/2023, 4:43 PM
@HulkisHoly - An entire land in the park, not just one ride. I never saw it so I don’t know how much the rides were a part of it though.

@ShimmyShimmyYA -

Well, there’s our answer.

Yeah I have no idea when Disney has last written something completely original. Maybe the original Lilo and Stitch 🤷‍♂️

heisei24 - 5/18/2023, 8:37 PM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - Well if you consider Tomorrowland as an original, then I guess Jungle Cruise is one too? That was a flop too.
