THE LION KING Concept Art Reveals A Cartoon Accurate Scar And Some Amazing Alternate Scenes

The Lion King was another hit for Disney, and now some concept art has been revealed which not only shows a cartoon accurate take on Scar, but also keyframes which reveal alternate scenes and key moments.

The Lion King may not have resonated with critics, but moviegoers embraced this "live-action" take on the beloved animated movie and it honestly wouldn't be that surprising if a sequel receives the green light somewhere down the line.

For now, some amazing new concept art has been released which not only reveals how some of the main characters were dreamed up (the cartoon accurate Scar is absolutely amazing), but also a handful of moments that didn't make it into the film like Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa chilling out in a tree, a massive sandstorm, and an alternate take on Scar's lair.

There are various other locations and scenes from the film as well, and it's really interesting to see how much work went into bringing this world to life in the concept art stages.

The artwork comes our way courtesy of Michael Kutsche and Finnian MacManus (both of whom have done work for Marvel Studios). To check out this full gallery of concept art from The Lion King, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button down below!

Nah, still not cartoon accurate. Just a lion with green eyes.

These have a lot more expression than the actual film itself. The colors and especially the facial expression for young Simba right there are on point.

I've been coming to this site for awhile now and really enjoy the banter with some of the same folks. BUT it has been UNBEARABLE trying to use this site the past month or so. I mean it used to be bad - but never this bad.

I'm struggling to find a reason to even come here now as I can barely participate in the comments. They don't process well, you can't really reply anymore, the articles load slower than molasses, etc.

I know this has all been said before - but Im close to throwing my hands up and saying "see ya later" and I don't want to at all.

@Kman - Agreed, there's only so many times I want to repost my dumb comments before I get existential about why I'm on here

I don't see why they couldn't have used this.

@Nebula - I don't mind the movie version at all, but this Scar is pretty darn dope! I agree; I don't see why this wouldn't/couldn't have worked.

Just so we're all clear, this is what Scar actually looked like:

The new Lion King film is a far better film than the original. Not only just in visuals but they took better use of the script and improved on it more, making it less boring. There was more believable tension and emotion just packed in where it should be. Scar was far more menacing and seemed to be a more greater threat. They made us actually care for Timon and Pumbaa this time around. The song numbers are better than the original in that they don’t take as long and try to gloss it with fancy visuals like the original. Also am glad Rafiki was more of a side character this time around he was so annoying in the original film. The use of the song Spirit was the most beautiful scene ever put in a Lion King film and triumphs over Rafiki’s boring motivational speech in the original. This is one of the greatest remakes of all time.

I really did not care for this adaptation, but it's probably because The Lion King is my favorite Disney Animated Classic.

Hoping the next few are more like The Jungle Book and Aladdin, and less like Dumbo and Lion King.

Concept artist: So I went for a photorealistic but still let the personality of the original shine through.

Jon Favreau: Real animals don't show human emotion.

Concept artist: But we're dealing with talking and singing animals here...

It’s funny that a concept artist can make art emote better than an animator can make CGI animals emote
