The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey has taken to Twitter to announce that production on Rob Marshall's upcoming live-action adaptation has wrapped, and share our first official look at her take on Ariel while she's at it.
We've seen some set photos of Bailey sporting a couple of different outfits, but this appears to be our first glimpse of Ariel in mermaid form - although her fins are mostly hidden beneath the water.
"And just like that..that’s a wrap," the actress captioned her post. "After auditioning for this film when i was 18 just about to turn 19, to now finishing filming through a pandemic when i turned 21 ..we have finally made it... Feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory.."
We still don't know a whole lot about this take on the story, but based on what we've seen so far, Marshall won't be taking too many liberties with the animated classic it's based upon.
Bailey stars alongside Jonah-Hauer King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
The Little Mermaid will feature music from the animated classic as well as four new songs. Lin-Manuel Miranda, who previously worked with director Rob Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also compose original music for Mermaid along with Alan Menken.
