DOCTOR STRANGE 2: Enter The Multiverse Of Madness With Trippy New Empire Covers

Empire Magazine has unveiled its latest newsstand and subscriber-only covers, and the latter features some trippy imagery from Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

By MarkCassidy - Mar 11, 2022 12:03 PM EST

Empire Magazine has shared a first look at the covers for its latest issue, which is set to hit shelves next Thursday. The newsstand cover gives us a new look at the Master of the Mystic Arts (Benedict Cumberbatch) as he'll appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, while Chris Malbon's subscriber-only artwork takes on a mind-bending trip to the Multiverse of Madness.

Like the recent poster, this cover spotlights most of the movie's main characters, but are their any big reveals or Easter Eggs hidden in the psychedelic imagery?

We can spot at least one Variant (they're not hard to find!), but check out the artwork for yourselves below and see what you can find.

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, with Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Michael Waldron.

The Doctor Strange sequel releases in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022.

While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to be Awesome 5 Star movie. After watching the first trailer I lost a little interest.

Based on the trailer I know Doctor Strange is going be about facing and fixing his mistakes in Infinity War and Spider-Man movies. Based on the trailer we will be getting a lot of different versions of different superheroes and villains.

If I'm correct there is a chance, we will see which will make me extremely happy to see an evil version of alternate universe of the Hulk :)

@DoubleD - or better yet the “Defender Strange” variant will be apart of a team comprised of the original comic defenders: Strange, Hulk, Silver Surfer, Valkyrie, Hercules

@JFerguson - I will take a Defenders movie over another Avengers movie but original didn't have Valkyrie or Hercules.

@McMurdo - Marvel Studios and Sam Raimi will not fail with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness packed with action, humor and kid friendly. We will have another Spider-Man: No Way Home at Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office on our hands but this time in the Summer of Blockbusters and NO Pandemic.

China Release Date: 4 May 2022.

@McMurdo - One thing all the Marvel movies and shows have going for them is they're action packed, not boring, kid friendly and have lots of humor.

Nothing like The Batman, long boring, no action, no humor, dark and not kid friendly. All the Marvel movies and shows are going to blow away The Batman.

Damn it! Why couldn’t they have released this movie back when I was still actively doing hallucinogens? Although back in that time we still had “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”, “A Scanner Darkly”, pretty much anything by Terry Guilliam, etc. so I can’t complain. Well I guess I still have NyQuil and Sudafed, which according to Dr. Denis Leary is stronger than anything that you can get on the streets (“It’s legal! It’s over the counter! You can drink it!” 😉

@StSteven - consider it a blessing. CGI is getting so good these days you'd probably thought you fell into the 7th circle of hell. I watched RANGO on shrooms a decade ago and that shit is still traumatizing
StSteven
StSteven - 3/11/2022, 3:51 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - I dunno. I was on some pretty good acid during the Pink Floyd '94 show at Soldier's Field in Chicago and it practically redefined reality for me at the time (of course I was in high school, so ya know). But seriously, I was blown away by the giant mechanical pigs with spotlights for eyes popping out of the speaker cones during "One of These Days" but what really melted my brain was during David Gilmour's solo during "Comfortably Numb" during the encore when a tent opened up at the bottom of the stadium and a giant 30 ft. disco ball rose up on a tower and they started shooting lasers at it, so there were little globs of colored light bouncing all over the stadium. THEN the disco ball started to peel open like a flower and invert itself and the inside was covered with little mirrors AND they had a light array inside that started shooting lasers at the insides of the disco ball. Needless to say, by the time the song was over and the lights came up, everyone just kind of sat there and looked at each other like "Did you see what I just saw?".

Now THAT'S how you melt people's brains. If DSMoM doesn't do the same for me I will be thoroughly disappointed ;). J/k Although, seriously, I'm thinking that cutting together DSMoM and setting it to "Dark Side of the Moon" (or "Meddle", or "AHM", etc.) could be the next big thing. (FWIW, Floyd does reference Dr. Strange in the song "Cymbaline" ("More", 1969), and I believe that there is an image of him on the "A Saucerful of Secrets" album as well, but it's been a while since I looked at it).

@StSteven - I'm so cool, I used to do hallucinogens and now I'm extra cool commenting on cbm
StSteven
StSteven - 3/11/2022, 7:40 PM
@Colton - Oh, hey, I wasn't trying to sound like that. And if there is a stereotypical "I used to do hallucinogens and now I'm extra cool commenting on cbm" type of guy I certainly don't want to be thought of as that guy. In fact I think that in all of my posts on this site this is one of the few (if only) times that I've referenced my questionable past activities. It's not like it's something that I'm proud of or that I talk to people I know in casual conversation ("Yeah, Dave, I think that we can get that model built by the end of Q1 and did I tell you about the time that I was tripping balls at that Floyd concert in '94? If only we'd had more wihppets). I was simply trying to establish a point of reference that I (lightheartedly) want this movie to live up to (which it obviously won't). I wasn't at all trying sound like I think that I'm cool for having done drugs in the (long ago) past. A lot of us have, a lot of us do. I don't judge, nor do I attach any significance or relevance to the spare-time activities of anyone else as long as it doesn't endanger myself or my family.

So ultimately I was just trying to share a cool (hallucinogenic) experience that I had a long time ago and expressing what I what like to see in DSMoM. No more, no less. And now being a father with two little kids, I would hardly look back at those past activities as being "cool" and would hope that my children don't ever do even half of the dumbass things that I did when I was younger.

Hope that clarifies what I meant by that comment.

@comicfan100 - yeah. To an extent I agree strange probably would be too op for wandavision, but his race and gender shouldn't matter to whether to include him or not.
