DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Star Charlize Theron Still Waiting On A Call From Marvel Studios

Following her surprise debut as Clea in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there's a lot of excitement to see what Charlize Theron does next in the MCU. Unfortunately, she's still waiting on a call!

By JoshWilding - May 23, 2023 06:05 AM EST

Many of Phase 4's post-credits scenes were devoted to introducing new characters, whether it's Hercules, Blade, Jake Lockley, or Clea. The latter showed up at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' credits, recruiting the former Sorcerer Supreme for a mission into the Dark Dimension.

It seems she needs Stephen Strange's help to stop an incursion, a concept that promises to be key to the Multiverse Saga as realities start colliding.

Comic book fans will know how important Clea is to the hero's story (they even ended up getting married), and Marvel Studios has made sure to enlist an A-List talent to bring the character to life in the form of Oscar-winner Charlize Theron.

Unfortunately, the Fast X star is still waiting for a call from them!

"I don't," she responds in the video below when asked if Marvel Studios has been in touch to tell her when and where she'll next play Clea. "No, I haven’t gotten a call. I've not gotten a - Is that bad? Is that bad? Is that bad? No, I’m not lying...I haven’t gotten a call. Is that bad?"

Is Theron perhaps protesting a little too much here? We'll let you be the judges of that, but the character is bound to make her presence felt again sooner rather than later. The Doctor Strange sequel remains one of Marvel Studios' highest-grossing post-pandemic releases, so a third instalment is bound to happen eventually.

We're sure Marvel Studios has some sort of plan in place, anyway, and can't imagine they'd hire Theron without signing her up for something more than just a quick cameo.

I assume she'll show up in Agatha or Secret Wars. No rush

Based on the way that post credit scene played out, they kinda have to do Doctor Strange 3 before Strange appears in the next Avengers movies, unless Avengers literally starts with him and Clea in the Dark Dimension and they somehow tie that into Kang's plot, which feels like it'd be kinda a waste of Dormammu

GeneralChaos - 5/23/2023, 12:47 PM
@AC1 - Not necessarily. They did Ant-Man And The Wasp right after Infinity War and they didn't start with everyone being snapped.

They would just work around it.
AC1
AC1 - 5/23/2023, 2:06 PM
@GeneralChaos - No but the end credit sequence showed the snap happening meaning the rest of the movie happened concurrently or even slightly before the events of Infinity War and then led directly into Endgame, whereas the implication of the MoM credits scene is that the next time we see Strange he and Clea will be doing whatever they're doing in the Dark Dimension.

They have introduced way too many characters that last couple years. I keep wondering where everybody is gonna show up again...

They will Adam Warlock her. They introduced her but she's pointless going forward and will get a cGI pet or something. Or rescue some kids.

This is a pretty big actress to just shoehorn in a post credit scene. They better have a plan for her.

Thanks for this info whomever got the interview… we were dying to know if she got the call.

"No, I’m not lying...I haven’t gotten a call. Is that bad?"

It's bad, because Theron is an A-lister. Filming on Strange MOM would have finished close to two years ago.
GeneralChaos
GeneralChaos - 5/23/2023, 8:57 AM
@GeneralZod - They haven't announced a sequel or set a release date. They don't even have a director confirmed. There's nothing to call her about.

GeneralZod - 5/23/2023, 9:19 AM
@GeneralChaos - Thank you for making my point, General.
GeneralChaos
GeneralChaos - 5/23/2023, 9:36 AM
@GeneralZod - What is your point - that it's bad they haven't started on another Dr. Strange? They haven't started on another Spiderman or even X-Men, either. They have a busy slate.
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 5/23/2023, 12:13 PM
@GeneralChaos - Read from the top, General. It's bad because Charlize Theron, who presumably will have some meaningful role in the MCU, has not been contacted at all. By contrast, i seriously doubt Marvel Studios has been incommunicado with Tom Holland for the next Spidey movie.
GeneralChaos
GeneralChaos - 5/23/2023, 12:39 PM
@GeneralZod - When Chris Hemsworth saw onscreen at the end of the last Thor film that "Thor Will Return" he said, "He will?!". Taika also said it was news to him. Not being in talks is not unusual. And Hemsworth is the star. He's not a side character like Charlize.
GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 5/23/2023, 2:09 PM
@GeneralChaos - Hemsworth's original Thor contract expired after Engame, and Marvel Studios extended him one more movie -- Thor 4 -- because Hemsworth wanted to collaborate with Taika Waititi again. So Hemsworth, for the time being, is done. I very much doubt Theron signed a one-and-done movie deal with Marvel Studios.

@GeneralChaos - Spiderman 4 is in active development.
You don't hear as much about it, because it is a Sony movie and they announce them late.

X-Men isn't planned until after phase 6.
GeneralChaos
GeneralChaos - 5/23/2023, 4:16 PM
@GeneralZod - So that shows Marvel does usual things, announcing Thor will return when there's no contract, no contacting Charlize when she is.

Probably the worst MCU post-credits scene ever.
Not only is leading nowhere, it ruined the ending of the movie...a movie that wasnt very good to begin with.

Hope someday Sam Raimi is allowed to talk about how they massacred his movie in post.
slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 5/23/2023, 10:03 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - disagree.. multiverse of madness was probably the best phase 4 movie.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 5/23/2023, 10:51 AM
@slickrickdesigns - That doesnt make it good.

What pains me the most about this movie is that you can see there is a good movie under all the corporate mandate BS, I just hope someday we see some of the 80% that got deleted.
GeneralChaos
GeneralChaos - 5/23/2023, 12:49 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - It is good, though. MoM, NWH and GotG 3 are right up there as the best of Phase 4 and better than some Phase 1-3 movies.

Doctor Strange made $677.8 million.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made $955.8 million.
This is definetly a character that deserves a third film.

The big three - Captain America, Thor and Iron Man need to always get new movies.

Thor was the first character to get a 4th movie, but Chris Hemsworth will probably not do a 5th movie because of his health.

Captain America 4 will be coming in 2024 as part of phase 5, although Chris Evans is not in it.

Iron Man 4 would have been a guaranteed $1 billion+ movie, but Marvel killed the character.

Spiderman 4 will probably come out in late 2024 and will be the main protagonist in Avengers 6.

That being said, i am sure that Avengers 6: Secret Wars will bring the characters and actors back for a great and final showdown.

After that the mcu will get a complete reboot and begin with new and younger actors.

kinda a waste she has the perfect look and gravitas to play Susan Storm.
