RUMOR: DOCTOR STRANGE Star Mads Mikkelsen Is In Talks For MCU Return As Different Character - Is Doom Coming?

Fantastic Beasts star Mads Mikkelsen played the villainous Kaecilius in 2016's Doctor Strange, but a new rumour suggests the actor is in talks to make his MCU return as someone else entirely. Check it out!

Say what you will about the Multiverse Saga, but there's been a noticeable disconnect between Marvel Studios and fans since it started. Now, as Kevin Feige sets out to get this franchise back on the right track, a Doctor Strange star could be about to make their MCU return.

The question is, will Marvel Studios make fans happy and cast him as Doctor Doom?

We are, of course, referring to Mads Mikkelsen. The actor, who has become known for his work portraying villains in everything from Hannibal to Casino Royale and Fantastic Beasts, was largely wasted back in 2016 as another of those MCU baddies that serves a purpose but is largely forgotten once the credits roll.

It may not come as any great surprise then that scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Mikkelsen is now in talks for a new MCU role that won't be Kaecilius. We don't currently know which character he's being eyed for but the actor remains a fan-favourite choice to play Victor Von Doom in Fantastic Four and his name has been linked to the villain several times in recent months.

Cillian Murphy is another actor fans would love to see in the role but given how selective he is in terms of acting gigs, it's highly doubtful he'd entertain the idea of signing a multi-year contract to play a comic book supervillain (even if it is someone as layered as Doom).

It's probably best not to get too excited at this stage as there are countless other characters Mikkelsen could be in the running for; heck, for all we know, perhaps he's the new Kang the Conqueror!

Unless an announcement is made within the next week - which is unlikely now it's the holidays - we won't end 2023 knowing which actors will play Marvel's First Family in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Not too long ago, it was widely reported that The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal is being lined up to play Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, with Vanessa Kirby still the frontrunner to play Sue Storm/Invisible Woman.

As for the rest of the team, rumour has it Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have been eyed for the Human Torch and The Thing, respectively.

Doctor Doom was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and is the arch-nemesis of Reed Richards and Marvel's First Family. A brilliant scientist and ruler of the fictional country Latveria, he wears a powerful suit of armour to mask his scarred visage and is one of the Marvel Universe's most iconic villains.

Do you think we could see Mikkelsen as the MCU's Doctor Doom?

Been saying that for years now: retcon Kaecilius as Victor and make Triumph and Torment, dammit!

@Fogs - wait. Why do I love this idea

@Fogs -

I've been a vocal supporter of T&T for years as well (just ask @Garu), but they don't have to retcon him. His origin in the first Strange was left vague enough to later specify him as Latverian, so ho harm done.

@Fogs - Damn, that's a great idea.

Yeah, he would be a great Victor.

Him or Cillian Murphy.

I would love to see him back. Kaecilius = Victor Doom's full name?

I would absolutely be fine with Mickelson as Doom...BUT they could also just make Kaecilius a better villain. No need to change him. If they take this advise, a person who would also be a great Doom is Rufus Sewell...

@Forthas - Damn. That guy looks like Doom even in a suit. Which is what I think has been missing. Tim Story’s Doom looked like a dweeb outside of the mask. The other one also had no threatening prescience.

Sewell gives off the vibe that he his ultra powerful. He’s not only got F-U money; he’s got ruin your entire family or community money. You got my vote for Sewell!

@Forthas - that guy is such an under rated actor imo. Would LOVE him as DOOM, or Mads. Couldnt go wrong with either of them

@Forthas - I seriously doubt this actor would do this part for 8-10 years of his life. He’s a fantastic actor and villain, and ever since I seen A Knight’s Tale, I know he could pull it off. It’s just a matter of those multi picture deal contracts that Marvel has him sign. He would be great though, he acted along with Paul Bettany (Vision) and Heath Ledger (Joker) in A Knight’s Tale.

@Forthas - Pretty much. Ever since I found out about this actor I felt something about him that screams "Doom. Victor Von Doom". I would be really glad if he was the character.

@Forthas - I actually always saw Rufus as Black Bolt's brother, Maximus but I'm all in on him as DOOM.

@thingrock4 - I would love to take credit for this but it was another user who made the suggestion not so long ago and the more I thought about it the more it seems like a perfect fit.

Nooooooooooo!!!!! Do not use the same actor in multiple physical roles! It messes up continuity. Keep him as Kaecilius and only as Kaecilius.

@Jonbonvon15 - He had a forgettable role, what's it matter?

I wasn't the only one who, and he was cast in Doctor strange said "they're wasting him, because he'd be an amazing Doctor Doom." That said, I don't know if you reuse him at this point... But I definitely don't think Cillian Murphy is right for the role. Two frail, no physical presence, can't generate enough threat, I think.

A talented, unknown who's perfect is always an option

@Izaizaiza -

Agreed on Murphy. He could make for a killer Nightmare instead.

@DrReedRichards - him or Matt Smith would be my pick
DrReedRichards
DrReedRichards - 12/23/2023, 10:29 AM
@TheVisionary25 -

Agreed! Smith would nail the prankster side of the character, while Murphy would come across as a lot creepier.

@DrReedRichards - Smith can come across threatening and scary too having seen his Doctor Who stuff while also being the prankster as you said.
