DOCTOR STRANGE 2: Here's Why Saudi Arabia Asked Disney To Cut 12 Seconds From The Sequel

More details on Saudi Arabia's decision not to screen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness have come to light, and we now know why Disney was asked to cut 12 seconds from the sequel...

It was recently reported that Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had been banned in Saudi Arabia, and we now have a few more details on the situation.

According to The Guardian, the sequel hasn't actually been banned outright (at least, not yet), but the Kingdom is still trying to get Disney to agree to cut a scene that "amounts to barely 12 seconds." As many assumed, the sequence does involve America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), with the character making a reference to her “two moms” at one point.

“It’s just her talking about her moms, because she has two moms,” said Saudi Arabia’s general supervisor of cinema classification Nawaf Alsabhan. “And being in the Middle East, it’s very tough to pass something like this. We sent it to the distributor, and the distributor sent it to Disney, and Disney has told us they are not willing.”

“It will never be banned,” he added. “There’s no reason to ban the film. It’s a simple edit. So far they have refused. But we haven’t closed the door. We’re still trying.”

A similar situation arose last year when Disney was asked to remove a scene from Eternals which saw Phastos share a kiss with his husband. The House of Mouse refused to budge then, so we can't see them acquiescing here. If the cuts aren't made, Doctor Strange 2 will most likely be "withdrawn" from theaters in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.

We'll be sure to keep you updated. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 5.

Again Disney should stick to their convictions they have with other countries and individuals and enforce their cancel culture work tactics in this space as well against these middle eastern countries. Stop sending all of your products to these countries until they get on board with the rest of us. Yet Disney will kowtow to them and still send their products to their regions were if it was any other country they would cancel them out of existence

@Vampyre75 - And cut them selves out of profit??? Never. When they own everything then I suppose they can have that conversation.

I agree with the sentiment though, but it's business first with them.

EDIT:
I stand corrected... I read it wrong. It seems Disney is standing their ground. 👏🏼

@Vampyre75 - They are a multi-billion dollar corporation, they dont have convictions.

HOWEVER, they should stand their ground on this matter.

@UniqNo - That and I'm sure there are many fans out there that aren't so bigoted, that want to see this movie. Although I really doubt Disney cares about that too much lol

@Superheromoviefan - I hate Disney, but yes.
If some countries want to keep living in the dark ages, they can keep living in the dark ages, but let the rest of us living in the XXI century alone.

I'm strongly Christian and I will never understand how religious people can casually (if not gleefully) embrace media about murder, stealing, lying, rape, and all other forms of awfulness, but then throw a hissy fit when a gay person exists onscreen

Feels like somewhere a few wires have gotten crossed

@OmegaDaGrodd - some people in religion take it to far and other people in people in religion can accept it to know what’s entertainment and not reality .,

I’m with you I don’t go church I don’t mock people who go church but grandfather he’s very religious there are things he says piss me off I ignore what he says

@OmegaDaGrodd - They took one verse in Leviticus and ran with it. If they put their money where their mouths are and followed every single “law” in that book to the letter, all of them would be in jail. It’s just an excuse to be divisive and xenophobic.
