DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Rumor Claims Marvel Scrapped Cameos For Deadpool, Magneto, & More

We're taking this with a pinch of salt, but a new report claims to reveal some of the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cameos that were shot before being left on the cutting room floor.

By JoshWilding - May 16, 2022 01:05 PM EST

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured some big cameos, but for some fans, that still wasn't enough. While we may have seen John Krasinski as Mister Fantastic, the return of Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X, and even Anson Mount suited up as Black Bolt, the general consensus online seems to be that the sequel failed to live up to its title...and all those big rumours, of course.

It is what it is, but The Weekly Planet's James Clement has now made some wild claims about cameos Marvel Studios shot before deciding, for whatever reason, to leave on the cutting room floor.

Reiterating that the MCU's Mordo was supposed to be killed by the Scarlet Witch in an alternate opening scene, Clement says that Michael Fassbender shot scenes as Magneto and Ghost Rider was once set to be a member of The Illuminati. As for Deadpool, it sounds like Ryan Reynolds was going to appear in a post-credits scene (that would have been one way to bring him into the MCU...).

In conclusion, he says that his source relayed that these cameos were "filmed but ultimately cut from the theatrical version," though we're having a hard time believing all those actors were cut from the movie unless Marvel has concrete plans for them beyond the Doctor Strange sequel.

We know that's the case with Deadpool, of course, while Ghost Rider showing up at some point is no doubt inevitable. However, bringing Magneto back only to drop him from the movie is...odd.

Ultimately, it's easy to now claim that cameos like these were shot and subsequently scrapped. Since news broke that Daniel Craig was originally eyed for the role of Mister Fantastic, it's been said that he was actually wanted for Balder (that person never mentioned Craig's connection to the movie prior to Deadline's Justin Kroll dropping the news). We know from past leaks that's actually a role Bruce Campbell shot before he was dropped from The Illuminati, so don't believe everything you read.

Hopefully, if these deleted scenes are real, they'll be confirmed or released somewhere down the line.

I’m glad we didn’t get Deadpool yet, I wouldn’t want it to be a forced cameo that made no sense other than showing Deadpool. It would’ve been weird to have a character like ghost rider on the Illuminati. Might’ve been cool to see Magneto if he in some way showed a family connection to Wanda.

It feels like, as fans, we have been spoiled and now we're getting greedy. I trust the process and I'm willing to wait for the time when Marvel decides to debut this characters in the MCU. In my opinion, I think they've earned it.

Why would killing 199999's Mordo matter to 838's?

Didn't need them

I know the Illuminati we got wasn't 100% accurate to the comics in terms of the members, but considering that their whole idea is to be the most influential and powerfull heroes secretly pulling the strings behind-the-scenes, a stunt performer or punk kid (depending which version of Ghost Rider they were planning to go with), who turns into a demon (sometimes against his own will) would have felt little out of place.

what ever happened to the Campbell Strange variant? I do remember seeing him in a dressing room in Strange garb?

@JustBrootal - I believe that that was an April Fool’s Day prank by Bruce, if I’m not mistaken.

@StSteven - wack, that woulda been way cooler than the cameo we got i think.

@JustBrootal - Ehh, I think that it would have been funny to be sure, but I don't really see Bruce being able to play it straight long enough to take it seriously. I mean, do you really see him being able to pull that off? I know that as an actor he's capable of it, I just don't really see him doing a straight-faced Dr. Strange variant for more than a couple of minutes without corn balling it up. Maybe it's just me. Either way sure, having him playing a bigger cameo than he did would have ben welcomed, but maybe Raimi was just treating Bruce like you do with that friend that you have that you know is going to show up drunk to whatever you invite him to: invite him to your birthday party, your dad's funeral, ehhh not so much. And if you do, just keep him in the back and have him serve pizza balls or something. Maybe tell everyone when it's time to go. Ya know.

They are almost certainly building to Secret Wars, which means they can’t throw everything into one film. Save some for later.

@tripttwe - will be nice to have a good anthology show again after how mediocre twilight zone was and how down hill american horror story went

@dracula - Classic Twilight Zone is still better than most current TV. I have seen every episode at least twice. I'm now watching Alfred Hitchcock almost daily.

PS: Checking out Severanve right now, episode 2.

If it means waiting until after Secret Wars and Marvel rebooting the MCU to get a good solid universe with the X-Men, that doesn't include just shoving them into the existing MCU through multiverse Shenanigans, then I'm all fornit.

Well hopefully they keep Fassbender as Magneto. No one else will come close to matching him.
