Tickets for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness went on sale yesterday, and Fandango has now revealed that the Marvel Studios sequel sold more tickets during their first 24 hours than any other 2022 release. While it's been a relatively quiet year for blockbusters thus far, it's undeniably impressive that Sam Raimi's movie managed to beat The Batman given the Dark Knight's popularity.

It sounds like these first-day presales are the best Fandango has seen since Spider-Man: No Way Home, but the Doctor Strange sequel didn't quite manage to top Sony Pictures' threequel.

That's not surprising all things considered, but there's clearly still a huge amount of excitement surrounding Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Yesterday, Disney released an extended TV spot for the movie, though fans remain hopeful that one more trailer might still be on the way.

"The epic first day of presales for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness proves fans are beyond excited to experience all the thrills, chills and blockbuster surprises Marvel Studios is known to deliver," said Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis in a statement earlier today.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.

@MCUKnight11 - Hmm I don't know...

Depending on how this movie deals with nostalgia (a lot, according to the leaks) I believe we're talking NWH-like Box-office.

Can't see Namor (if true) beating that - even though I'm absolutely stoked for it if it happens.

@Fogs - NWH couldn’t make what it did in the summer, tons of movies. Which begs the question, what if endgame came out in December 😳 3 billion easy

After The Batman not reaching 1 Billion with China

I don't think Dr. Strange will be as big as Spiderman No Way Home

@WakandaTech - December with no competition for two months. It’ll top a billion tho Fa sho

@WakandaTech - I mean, No Way Home is the 6th highest grossing movie ever with almost $1.9 billion worldwide. I don't think anybody ever expected Strange to get anywhere near that.

@Kyos - or NWH for that matter. Could’ve passed 2 billion maybe even force awakens with China. I thought 1.5 was doable, not a cakewalk lol

@TheWalkingCuban - Yeah, that level of success completely took me by surprise. I thought it maybe had a decent chance to land somewhere between Captain Marvel and the original Avengers, but not this.

@Kyos - seeing as covid smothered a bunch o films I saw 900 mill to 1.1 bill, bout the same as FFH at most. Shhhooooooo o never imagined behemoths would make a comeback and that’s exactly what this was. A real shot in the arm for the industry

@WakandaTech - Who said it was? I always knew DS: In the Multiverse of Madness won't make as much as NWH. NWH was a different breed.

Fandango was a lot less problematic this time that it was for NWH or The Batman. Only took about 30 min (which still is too long for an internet purchase) as opposed to well over an hour for the others.

@datfigures - why not just buy your tickets from the theater?

@eGGtheGreat - I thought that's what everyone did lol. I wouldn't wait for thirty minutes for it.

@eGGtheGreat - honestly I’ve used them for years and I can stack rewards with AMC. I got $5 off each from Fandango and AMC on these tickets and it goes towards the next reward and it’s worth it for how much I normally go to the theaters. I tried AMC’s website direct for NWH but they had the same delays and Fandango let me check out faster.
