ETERNALS Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed; Leaves It Short Of "Certified Fresh" Status

It goes without saying plenty more reviews for Eternals will be counted in the coming weeks, but the movie's initial Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed, and it's not in "Certified Fresh" territory!

The first reviews for Eternals landed earlier today, and while there are literally hundreds of verdicts yet to be counted, it's a surprisingly lowly start for a Marvel Studios movie on Rotten Tomatoes. With a total of 31 reviews on the aggregator thus far, Chloé Zhao's first blockbuster has a 71% score.

75% is usually needed to attain "Certified Fresh" status, though it's unlikely that would be awarded this early, regardless. Only two Marvel Cinematic Universe titles don't hold that accolade: Thor: The Dark World (66%) and The Incredible Hulk (67%). As of right now, it's too soon to say where Eternals will end up, but this 71% score is definitely a tad lower than we anticipated.

For comparison's sake, Black Widow has 79%, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings holds a mighty 92%. As of right now, Eternals is roughly on par with Iron Man 2

Once again, it's worth stressing that it's still very early days, and it could be a couple of weeks before we find out where on the Tomatometer the final big screen Phase 4 adventure of 2021 will sit. No "Critics Consensus" has been revealed yet, but we'll be sure to keep you updated on that front.

Eternals will arrive exclusively in theaters on November 5.

@Spidey91 - its possible. Think at most it will stay in the 70’s seems like most scores either improve little or just go lower

@dragon316 - nobody mentioned box office

Plenty of good movies fail to turn a profit like

And plenty of movies worst than marvel’s weakest have been a success like

@dracula - box office never matters until it's for a movie they like.

36 Reviews is a little early to call Certified Fresh or not.

MCU is so successful that a film that has 70% RT score is viewed as trouble for the franchise.

@AmazingFILMporg -
This is disappointing because it's an ambitious sci-fi epic (not the usual superhero/comedy formula) from an academy award-winning director. I was expecting this to be one of the MCU's best films, so this is a bit of a let down.

Many MCU films have been too braindead and "samey" lately, so with Kevin Feige digging into the multiverse and darker territory with Blade and Doctor Strange 2 (not to mention the upcoming additions of the X-Men and Fantastic Four), the MCU does need some new tricks to avoid getting stale.
