ETERNALS Very Nearly Included Vampiro As A Member Of The Superhero Team

Eternals introduced ten new immortal superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there was very nearly twelve, and one of them would have been obscure character Vampiro! Find more details right here.

We recently learned that an earlier version of Eternals would have included twelve lead heroes instead of ten. During a recent interview with Deadline's Hero Nation Podcast, screenwriters Ryan and Kaz Firpo named at least one of the characters we could have seen alongside Ikaris and company.

"There were two Eternals that we loved dearly. They made it to the cutting room floor," Kaz explained. "We were given a binder when we first started this process. Ryan and I just sat down and flipped through the pages and picked the ones who we thought could best reflect the world, whose powers were the most interesting and compelling, and that really was our journey."

"[A dozen is] a nice number, and so they were kind of pushing that," the writer continued. "And we were saying 'That's quite a lot of people that we've never met before.' They were like, 'Let's try it,' and so we did it for one draft, and the very first thing they were like 'Okay, let's only have ten.' One of them was Vampiro, who was a favourite of producer Nate Moore."

Vampiro is a relatively obscure character from the comic books who ended up becoming a pro wrestler after parting ways with his fellow Eternals. As well as superhuman strength, he has the ability to fly. However, while he does have fangs like a vampire, it's unclear whether he actually acts like one!

With the direction the MCU appears to be heading in, Vampiro is definitely a character we could meet in another form down the line. It's possible that Dracula could even be tied to the Eternals somehow, especially as their existence is clearly a lot more complex than most of us ever imagined.

"A powerful, sweeping exploration of love, life, and the MCU’s history, Eternals occasionally stumbles, but when it soars, this is Marvel Studios at its magnificent best," we said in our review.

Eternals is now playing in theaters.

Saw it yesterday and well what can I say, it's easily my favorite MCU project this year, closely followed by Wandavision. What's the common thing between those two?

They're different from the rest, they stand out.

Listen I'm excited for Spidey just as much as the next guy, but can I see it topping Eternals for me? That's a hard thing to imagine right now.

@Fares - different was due. Unfortunately different doesn't always mean "good". Glad to hear it was the best of "Phase 4". How does it stack against the entirety of the MCU circa 2008? Top 20? 10? ...5?

@VictorAlonzo - Oh well, that's a good question.

I would say that to me, it's in the top half if not the top third of all MCU projects so far. Multiple viewings will eventually cement my position even further. But I don't think my opinion is reliable for the masses since I occasionally don't completely agree with the majority.

@Fares - I definitely get where you're coming from, but it's kinda the opposite for me. Falcon and the Winter Soldier was probably the most 'tame' one I'd say, but definitely my favorite so far this year (have yet to see Shang-Chi though)

@Fares - "Fares enough."😉 Thanks.

@bkmeijer - I get the appeal. FATWS was to me like a night out with my old pals Sam and Bucky. It's always a fun time, but nothng exceptional to write home about. I'd take a podcast from the two if Marvel gives me one though.

And Shang Chi to me was a fun time at the theater and not much else. I think everyone overhyped it for me that I was a little disappointed coming out from it. But it introduced a cool new protagonist to the universe, so at least I hope to see him again in an improved sequel.

That would've been fun. Didn't know the Eternals at all so I too just flipped kinda through them and Vampiro stood out to me too (with my other favorite being Titanis).

Maybe they could still introduce them in a sequel, together with other some other Eternals (Domo, Pixie, Khoryphos, and Betilakk) that stood out to me that could fit in.

Yes. This movie definitely needed MORE characters of all things.

So if the eternals movie proved that you can bring in a dozen superheroes that have been hiding in plain sight in the mcu the whole time can we cease the idea of mutants coming in through Thanos snap / different multiverse or am I behind the times on this one?
