The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th.

His eyes are a deeper shade of blue. I think that's the difference.

Gollum looks kind of weird. I think it's just the picture, though.

Finally, we get a look at Radagast!!!

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939
By weird do you mean exactly the same as the last three movies?

Think it's just the angle with Gollum....but you can really see how much better he looks under the skin and the skin texture itself. Veining, wrinkles, etc.

Gollum has baby blues? How come I never really noticed that before?

How long has it been since you've seen the last three movies? He looks different. Eye color and complexion.

There are 77 years between LOTR and The Hobbit, naturally Gollum will look younger despite the one-ring dramatically slowing his ageing process.

I never understood the passion for these books. I knew people in high school that read 'em. They played D&D & shit like that. It's just a bunch of walking & talking. NYC is like that & if you wanna see some real-life "Gollums", head down to your local skid row.

Books, as well as their movie counterparts, are a total snoozefest.

LOTR Gandalf

Hobbit Gandalf

Besides, he's a wizard, they do magic so he can look like whatever he likes so nuhh! :p

@WinterSoldier24 - That's because they're books, not comics. they require a higher understanding and intelligence to thoroughly appreciate all the aspects of the creative literature. There are no simple pictures with simple captions for simple mind consumption, I guess!

And the movies are not popcorn flick length stuff with brief editing for the music video generation either. They're grand epics full of rich cinematography, inspired musical scores, creative set designs, lavishly rendered costumes and empathy inducing performances. Compared to the simple formatted movies your programmed to accept as the norm they are like a four-course feast fit for a king versus a McDonalds Happy meal.

@jj2112 - lol, the "handsome" dwarf is so because he's Thorin Oakenshield who descends from a line of dwarf kings. He's naturally going to look more well-to-do than the other average dwarfs because of his inherent affluence.

As for Radagast the Brown, he's supposed to look more docile than the more formidable wizards because of his affinity for nature and all living creatures and flora. The concerns of men, dwarfs and elves are less of his concern in comparison which is why he does not feature in the further tales of middle-earth.

i bet gandalf & gollum steal the show in this trilogy as they did the last.

@itslivefeed...the gollum of The Hobbit is mote preserved by the ring because it's still in his possesion and he's not worn by pursuing the theif who stole it from him. Traveling in the wilderness and providing for ones self will age a person rapidly.

As for the "more walking" issue: um, it's an adventure movie. The next complaint will be: for [frick]s sake, more sword fighting!

@ Stigmartyr Agreed.

@Stigmartyr Also agree. Gandalf's fight with the Balrog is one of the standout scenes of the entire trilogy for me. That being said, after watching that clip again, I can't believe anyone would be even slightly worried about The Hobbit movies considering it is in the careful hands of Peter Jackson. We're in for three glorious movies, which is one more than I had expected to get, so I am triply happy to have that many more quality films to look forward to. :)

That Kevin Smith "it's just people walking" rubbish is probably the single most ridiculous criticism I've ever heard. So the Star Wars movies are just people flying in spaceships, The Avengers was just people standing on a hellicarrier?
