That Orc was mostly there because the movie needed a villain, and well. smaug wasn't really there yet. But they need to let him go, now we have Legolas father as a "villain"

Is it just me or does Bard the Bowman look like Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean?

That pale orc shouldn't have even been in the movie in the first place. Uninspired design (claw for an arm? really? is that supposed to be scary, because it's just cheesy), useless plot point that just served to generate some action and waste some time by padding the story, and unnecessary character. The final "epic" fight scene was just ridiculously forced, because an fantasy story just HAS to have an epic fight at the end, right? Hopefully the sequel is better than the bloated, corny, terribly cgi-rendered mess we got in the first one.

@Godzillafart, Don't worry, bland computer generated characters such as the Pale Orc don't have any feelings to hurt.

I'm glad someone made the comparison between Peter Jackson and George Lucas. As I recall, Episode 1 actually was pretty well received when it first came out. Mostly the same with An Unexpected Journey. Give it a few years after this new trilogy is over, and I'm sure the shine will wear off. This new Hobbit trilogy won't be even close to the level that the Lord of the Rings is. Overabundance of bad CGI, sloppy writing, cheap laughs, stupid new characters introduced...seems like the Star Wars Prequels all over again to me

@Fettastic

i think the reason no one really complains about that scene looking bad is because, the entire movie was terrible and there was no need to pick and choose points of suckitude in that movie.

Whilst some points of criticism towards The Hobbit: AUJ are valid, comparing it to The Phantom Menace is a bit too extreme. I'm a massive Star Wars fan, and tend to treat the prequels kinder than most, but even I admit that Phantom Menace is uninspired and lazy except in the fight sequences, and the acting and dialogue is at times cringe worthy. AUJ is film making of a higher caliber - acting, cinematography and dialogue are all better by far. I think people place it next to LOTR too much, but as a friend pointed out to me, they are very different stories so the films are also bound to be different.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out who he looked like. So, we have Will Turner and Legolas in the same movie.

Why do people get so pissed after whining for so long that Peter Jackson needs to make The Hobbit? STFU and STAY HOME if you don't like the new trilogy! I bet half of you never even read the book! Meanwhile, the rest of us will buy our popcorn and Coke, and then sit back and have some fun. My wife and I took our kids to see the first one and we loved it. So what if Jackson took the liberty to stretch the book out into 3 movies? Hell, I say keep 'em coming!

Btw, Peter Jackson has been quoted many times as saying he was inspired by both George Lucas and Steven Spielburg.
