It's been a while since we had any updates on eOne's plans for a live-action Dungeons and Dragons series, but Deadline is now reporting that the project has enlisted Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber to write, executive produce and helm the pilot. The show already has Derek Kolstad (John Wick; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) on board as a writer.
Story details are still under wraps, but the series will be based on Hasbro’s best-selling fantasy role-playing game, which has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few years. Expect elves, orcs, wizards, and the usual elements associated with the genre.
“We don’t want it to just be one show so we are building out, developing out a multi-pronged approach for television, a number of scripted shows and unscripted, and we hope to be taking this out to the marketplace early next year,” said eOne’s President of Global Television Michael Lombardo.
The show is being developed in conjunction with Paramount Pictures' big-screen D&D reboot, which will star Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Rege-Jean Page, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.
The movie has a release date of s March 3, 2023, but a production start date for the series has yet to be announced.
