It's been a while since we had any updates on eOne's plans for a live-action Dungeons and Dragons series, but Deadline is now reporting that the project, which enlisted Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber to write, executive produce and helm the pilot early last year, has been given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order for the Paramount+ streaming service.

The show has Derek Kolstad (John Wick; The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) on board as a writer, and while specific story details are still under wraps, the plot will be based on Hasbro’s best-selling fantasy role-playing game, which has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past few years.

Expect elves, orcs, wizards, and the usual elements associated with the genre.

Paramount Pictures also has Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves coming to the big screen, but we're not sure whether both projects will be directly connected. All we've been told is that they are being "developed in conjunction" with one another.

“We don’t want it to just be one show so we are building out, developing out a multi-pronged approach for television, a number of scripted shows and unscripted, and we hope to be taking this out to the marketplace early next year,” said eOne’s President of Global Television Michael Lombardo back when the series was first announced.

Thurber is also working on two sequels to Netflix's Red Notice, which is still the streamer's most-watched original movie of all time.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves arrives in theaters March 3, 2023.
