DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES Features A Clever Nod To The Animated Series - SPOILERS -

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is now playing in theaters, and the movie contains a tonne of Easter Eggs for and nods to the popular tabletop game that inspired the fantasy adventure.

However, there is also one reference that only fans of the '80s Dungeons and Dragons animated series would recognize!

Major spoilers follow.

Towards the end of Honor Among Thieves, our heroes are forced to compete in a lethal gauntlet full of traps and monsters, and as they prepare to take on their first challenge, we catch a glimpse of another group in the background.

Judging by their distinctive costumes, these guys are almost certainly based on Hank the Ranger, Eric the Cavalier, Diana the Acrobat, Presto the Magician, Sheila the Thief, and Bobby the Barbarian from the classic cartoon.

Whether they're supposed to be the actual characters themselves is unclear (they all appear to be quite a bit older - especially Bobby), but either way, this serves as a nice little homage to the cult series that really doesn't get enough love these days.

There's no sign of Venger, unfortunately, but if Honor Among Thieves does get a sequel, directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley should really consider him for the main villain!

Have you been to see Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves yet? If so, did you catch this Easter Egg? Drop us a comment down below, and keep an eye on Toonado.com for all your cartoon and animated movie updates.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - Now that's cool. Why they didn't go this route is beyond me but predictable. Whoever made this movie please don't touch ThunderCats or the X-men.

Love this film, hope it gets a sequel. Is this the best "game" based movie adaptation? I liked it more than Sonic and Detective Pikachu so far. Mario looks promising too, won't see that til friday.

@mastakilla39 - I'm a big fan of Sonic as a game adaptation, so your sure piqued my interest with your comment.

Early reactions for Mario are good too, so we're definitely off to a good start with game adaptations this year.

@mastakilla39 - Interesting how the best game adaptations are very loosely adapted, with the exception of longform tv like Last of Us

@Matador - Seeing Dungeon Master and Uni, would have been great to see as well.

I think it would have made more money on its opening weekend at least.

Purely for Nostalgia.

@Fogs - When I watched the trailer, I thought the movie looked bad.

I saw this Dungeon And Dragons clip/spoiler on YouTube and thought this is what I want.

From what I gather online this movie is full of references and easter eggs and such, so this one doesn't surprise me either. Can't wait to watch this movie and see how many I pick up on.

"(they all appear to be quite a bit older - especially Bobby)"

Because as far as the cartoon is concerned they never got home. Bobby looks like he is going to give Conan a run for his money in the barbarian stakes

@FASELI - There is a final episode.
Series screenwriter Michael Reeves posted it on his website, then they put the script on one of the DVDs and then got the original cast together for a reading of it and put that on another of the DVDs and then somebody took that and did an entire animated episode and put it on YouTube. This is now considered to be the true finale to the show.

(So the cameo in the movie must take place some time before these events).
