Weta Workshop artists worked on Brett Ratner's Hercules, which starred Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ("G.I. Joe: Retaliation") in the title role. They designed amazing creatures, weapons and costumes. Below, are forty images, which are just a small portion of their effort. You can see alternate and final designs for the serpent-like water monster Lernaean Hydra, the dangerous and massive Erymanthian Boar, the Nemean Lion with the impenetrable hide and the three-headed hellhound known as Cerberus. You can also see costume and weapon designs for Hercules and his comrades Amphiaraus (Ian McShane), Autolycus (Rufus Sewell), Atalanta (Ingrid Bolso Berdal), and Tydeus (Aksel Hennie).

Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend. Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.

The movie is ok, but mostly because of the advertisement. In all thrailer and tv spots showed us the creatures and the movie it's not that. These creatures were just stories and Hercules is human. I wouldn't mind much IF THEY DIDN'T ADVERTISE AS THE MYTHICAL HERCULES! You know, with the superstrength and stuff. Not that it's a bad movie, it's just not what I wanted.

The Rock puts butts on seats and knows how to lay the smackdown on any opponent. It was a great move by WB to hire him as Black Adam!

The scenes with the best visuals were the briefest, and probably most expensive.

I picked the movie that night for a group of friends and had to apologize afterwards.

He was he son of Zeus and they didn't showed that entirely. but they did clarify that by the last line of Ian Mcshane's character. (didn't you hear/see the thunder in the clouds??)

I really enjoed this movie and knew what I was going into before watching it. So I did like the new take on Hercules mythos. I read every greek mythos and watched many Hercules movies. Getting the same stint will get stale after a while. Next Hercules I watch will be Marvel version.

Ratner had explained himself before releasing the movie I guess some of you did not read it.

That this movie was about Hercules already finished being Heroic it was the aftermath of his accomplishments. Basically leaving him as a mercenary. But they did have the story backwords. It was after he killed his family which he was tasked to complete the 12 labors not beefore.
