Previous reports have confirmed that Elijah Wood will in fact appear in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit movie but not as Frodo Baggins, the role he originated in The Lord of The Rings Trilogy.

Speaking with IGN, the LOTR and Sin City actor had this to say about his role.

We thought we were finished and the character doesn’t even exist in The Hobbit, so it was not even a pipe dream to imagine the possibility would be there for me to reprise the role of Frodo. But they’ve come up with something that I think is kind of interesting and I think very fitting that doesn’t necessarily infringe upon the integrity of the original novel. It’s great. I’m really excited. I think [the role will] be relatively minimal. That’s my impression. I actually haven’t read anything yet. I haven’t read a script. I have almost as much information as you guys have!

So far it has been confirmed that the majority of original cast members from the trilogy will be appearing in the movie. Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis and Christopher Lee will be reprising their original roles. Orlando Bloom will also be making a very expensive appearance in the movie. Looks like it is shaping up to be a LOTR reunion. The Hobbit: Part 1 is slated to hit theaters on December 19, 2012.

gah! I want to know what it is that they have come up with! How can they fit him in??? All I can figure is that they will have him reading "There and Back Again" to some children during the timeline of LOTR before he sales off to the undying lands...but he also said that he wont reprise his role....damn. What is going on?!

Maybe he'll play his own father. Since Bilbo is his uncle, maybe his dad makes a quick cameo and they decided to use Woods for this.

Cmon SpideyNeil, it's not that bad. Jackson has read the books, and will probablly just start off the movie by showing Frodo post War of the Ring, reading "There and back again, a Hobbit's holiday" by Bilbo Baggins, then jumping back in time to show us Bilbo's exploits. For all we know he's not even playing Frodo...

For any of the babies, complaining thats its not a "COMICBOOK", your wrong. The hobbit is actually a comic and I have it as proof. The entire story, just as Tolkien wrote it, in a glorious comic book form. So eat it cry babies:) Cookies for everyone!!!!!!!!!!
