Why no mention of Martin Freeman? I'm looking forward to seeing this, in particular seeing Aidan Turner (from Being Human) Being Human is an awesome show, it's a shame that it's going to the standard US raping.

@Ryden The CANADIAN (not US, although it does air in the US) Being Human is actually really good. You should give it a try.

@patriatuism- I don't think I will, it can't ever hope to top the original and the trailer looks weak. I don't see why US, and Candada now too I guess can't just come up with their own stuff? It's not like they're incapable of creating a decent US tv series I mean look at Sopranos or Boardwalk Empire or True Blood...they're all awesome, and you don't see the UK creating crappier versions of those programmes.

Can't wait for these! It just makes 2012 seem so far away. And if the world does indeed end in Dec. of 2012, then I'll be really pissed for not getting to see part II.

@Runefyst- Agreed, I come here expecting nothing but lousy misleading articles by Ror but every now and again we get some awesome Lord of the Rings stuff. I can't wait for this film and 678 (i think) days can't come fast enough.

When I first heard about this I was not excited. I kept picturing the perfection of The Lord of the Rings trilogy being tarnished by an unessessary prequel. Then they had Guillermo Del Toro to direct, who's better suited for a new Army of Darknss movie (what is he waiting for?). Then I actually read the Hobbit and wished Jackson was directing it if it had to happen- And now, he is (hopefully in good health). So....

EXCITED!!!!

Although this isn't a 'in costume' photo of Bilbo and his dwarves, this is still pretty sweet. Photo looks great. I cannot wait for this movie to come out!

@BrutalDuke: you're thinking of Gimley & Legolas. While neither of them feature in the book, Orlando Bloom is returning as Legolas -there are maybe 3 places he could have logiclly been storywise (the hall of Elrond, the palace of the wood-elfs, and, of course, the battle of the 5 armies). Gimley has only 1 place he could have been (the battle of the 5 armies) but John Reese Davis (did I spell that right?) has said before that he never wants to wear that makeup again and there's been no word on him so I doubt we'd be seeing him though the character's father, Gloin is in it (in LOTR, you can hear JRD's character refered to as, "Gimley, Gloin's Son" or, "Gimley Gloinson"). Also, not sure how old the character would have been at the time, I'd have to check the Appendicies. I think he was born but, again, can't remember all that well.

Now the only acter I really would like to see return would be Christopher Lee! I know he won't go to NZ but perhaps they could film his bits in the UK (it would only be for the White Council anyway)... FINGERS CROSSED!!!

This is a great cast! Freeman is perfect and Armitage (reminds me of a young Sean Bean) and Kazinsky are fantastic actors.

I'm still amazed they're including all 13 dwarves. My mind boggles with the logistics of it. I don't envy PJ the task of squeezing them all in there.

I still have some trepidation about this thing being two movies, based on the recasting of LOTR characters who play no active role in The Hobbit, but there is a fine cast of dwarves and hobbit here, and I am glad that Peter Jackson is directing. He did an excellent job with the sets (everything looked just as I'd always imagined it would) and the staggering logistics of juggling three movies at once. I am looking forward to hearing news from the shooting (and maybe some pics).
