We've kept this one just under our radar until casting began to heat up, and that it most certainly has! The Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City) directed Gods Of Egypt will tell the story of Horus' mission to avenge his father Osiris' (god of the Underworld) death at the hands of his uncle, Set (god of the desert) joining forces with a human hero (isn't there always one?) in the process. Game Of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will play Horus, Gerard Butler will play Set, and Geoffrey Rush has now signed on to play the sun god Ra, father of Set and Osiris. Proyas wrote the script with Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who are behind Universal’s upcoming horror saga Dracula Untold .This sounds interesting, and could be something special...then again it could also be Clash Of The Titans! Thoughts?

I'm always fascinate by mythology, whether it's Greek or Egyptian so I can definitely get behind this! I don't know much about Egyptian gods so it'll be cool to watch.

I hope they cast some Egyptian actors though ....

Alex Proyas is an awesome director. City of Darkness is a classic. This will be great. He is my number one choice to direct a NOVA movie in the future.

Hey..in this day & age the white guys dominate, should be used to it by now.
They have been doing for quite some time.
In ancient Egypt there were no whiteys to take over then the Romans showed up,took control.

Eventually another race will take charge, has to happen. We will all be long dead but it will happen.
Until then, enjoy cool movies with cool white dudes doing cool stuff.

So, instead of Paradise Lost, we're getting this, from Proyas...and that's fine! Great cast for sure, and I'm just a sucker for myths.

Yeah, I'm not going to be outraged because they're casting white popular actors in the lead, you need some "pull" for a movie and I can't really think of many global popular actors that are Egyptian.

Yeah, as long as they make them look more Egyptian then I really don't mind. Not every Greek God in a movie is played by a Greek actor.

Um screw that youd think that for a movie set in Africa they would cast you know...black actors to portray the gods of a black civilization. Dont give me that "well there are white people in Africa too" yeah there are but they are in south Africa and Egypt is in Northeast Africa. Like seriously its not hard to find ethnic actors the studios just arent looking for them and they keep doing bullshit like this. People got pissed off when Idris Elba was cast as Heimdall a FICTIONAL interpretation of a Norse god but everyone seems to be ok with this.

@JatevinM Show me those haters who whined about casting of my gatekeeper, and I will kick some ASS.
JatevinM
JatevinM - 9/26/2013, 9:08 AM
Odin@ It does matter because these are the gods of a particular culture and people and its only common sense that they should reflect that culture and people. This is like if a legitimate movie was being done about the Norse gods and Denzel Washington was cast as Odin. There is nothing that anyone can say to me that will make me see this as something good. Yeah they picked good actors but still they are completely white washing an ethnic culture.

Robe@ At the end of the day they were still black. Black people come in may different shades. I just think it is extremely disrespectful

This is literally the biggest story he could've chosen. Cinema came from the telling of this story. These were the first ever plays, the mystery plays of ancient Egypt, that eventually became Dionysian Greek plays and eventually evolved into modern cinema.
They used to have people die in the performances of this play, to give it that realistic edge. I suppose CGI is a bit of an improvement there, huh?
Good choice, Mr. Proyas. Hope this doesn't go the way of Paradise Lost.
Wonder who they'll get to play Hathor?

This should be a pretty cool movie. There is so much history in Egyptian mythology. I have wanted for years a movie dealing with Egyptian Mythology. But all that comes out is either Greek or Norse mythology. So to hear this is good news.

As for changing the ethnicity I hate when that does happen. So many movies that are to be taking place in the Middle East are changed from being an Arab to a white dude. That being said not all of Ancient Egypt was black there was an Arab population and Jewish one too.

I hope this movie can do good because then an Egyptian mythology video game can come out. Just think some thing like the merging of God of War & Assassins Creed then you could have a pretty cool Egyptian game.

The Ancient Egyptians actually described their Gods as having Caucasian features, as did several South American cultures. So it shouldn't be an issue. Give them some a good tan and we are good to go.

Gerard Butler will never get rid of his accent. This movie will be as bad as Clash of the Titans. I can't wait for this comedy.

Alex Proyas, no Will Smith? I'm in. Sure, it sounds a little like Clash Of The Titans, except Proyas doesn't suck and there's no Sam Worthington, which is always good. Butler can go either way.

Here's hoping this does well enough for Proyas to get Paradise Lost back on track.

See this is the same stuff Hollywood has been doing since its inception. Egypt wasnt the only powerful african kingdom but it is the only one we really see standing today. Lets face it White supremacy doesnt want a civilization like Egypt to be African because nothin in Europe is like Africa. People can say there was white people in egypt all day long but there was also blacks in europe and do u hear about them? From Jesus to Horus white supremacy has to maintain that Gods r WHITE. imagine if an all black cast was cast for Clash of the titans? People would be pissed. Black people have already been taught we have no history outside america this is just icing on the cake
