With HBO about to give Hogwarts a brand new look on television, the original Harry Potter films are getting a fresh celebration of their own. Titan Books is releasing a revised and expanded edition of The Art of Harry Potter early next year, and the updated book now covers the Fantastic Beasts trilogy alongside the eight original movies.

Written by Marc Sumerak, the hardcover is due out in the UK on January 5th, 2027.

Eleven Films In One Giant Book

When The Art of Harry Potter first came out in 2017, it focused on the visual work behind the eight films that ran from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001 to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011. The new edition expands that scope to all eleven Wizarding World films by adding the Fantastic Beasts prequels, which starred Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander.

Titan says the book "now highlights the art created for the Fantastic Beasts films, spanning thirty-two pages of new content and art." The full volume runs 394 pages, up from 356 pages in Titan's original UK printing, and keeps the oversized 330mm by 248mm format.

As before, the focus is on the artists and filmmakers who built the world on screen. The publisher promises "hundreds of stunning works of art, including production paintings, concept sketches, storyboards, blueprints, and more," and calls the result "the definitive tome on the visual legacy of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films."

The original edition was a hit with film fans because it treated the movies as a design achievement in their own right. Its pages tracked Hogwarts, the creatures, the costumes and the characters from early concepts through to the finished look audiences saw in theaters, often showing how an idea changed along the way. Harper Design handled the North American release in 2017, while Titan published it in the UK, and new copies have been scarce for years.

A Love Letter To The Films Before The Reboot

The timing is hard to ignore. The first Harry Potter film turns 25 next month, and HBO's series adaptation is set to debut this Christmas on HBO and stream on HBO Max. You can watch the latest teaser trailer for the show, released back in September, below:

The show's first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is made up of eight episodes. The plan is to give each of J.K. Rowling's books its own season, which leaves room for subplots and characters the films had to trim or cut for time.

Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout lead the new cast as Harry, Hermione and Ron. They are joined by John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape and Nick Frost as Hagrid, while Warwick Davis returns to the franchise as Filius Flitwick. Francesca Gardiner serves as writer and executive producer, Mark Mylod directs multiple episodes, and longtime film producer David Heyman is among the executive producers.

For anyone who grew up with the movies, the art book is a reminder of just how much design work went into those films. Stuart Craig's sets, the costumes and the creature designs became the definitive version of the Wizarding World for millions of fans, and the new series will inevitably be compared against them.

Release Details

The revised edition is priced at £54.99 in the UK and is available to preorder through retailers such as Forbidden Planet and Waterstones. Titan's listing currently covers the UK and the rest of the world, and a separate North American edition has not been listed yet.

The reissue should be welcome news for collectors who missed the book the first time around. Those who already own the first edition will have to decide whether the extra Fantastic Beasts pages are worth a second purchase.

The Fantastic Beasts series, which began in 2016 and continued with The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018 and The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022, explored the wizarding world of the 1920s and 1930s. That gave its designers the chance to create new versions of the Ministry of Magic, new locations in New York and Paris, and a long list of magical creatures, which makes it a natural fit for an expanded edition of the book.

Are you more excited to revisit the art of the original films, or to see how HBO's series reinvents Hogwarts when it premieres this Christmas?
