I like the idea of this being a period piece. Could be good.

I think this will help flesh out the idea of how the Wizarding world has been a society that hasn't moved forward technologically in the last 75 years.

As long as it is completely it's own thing and doesn't rely on the Harry Potter-characters history etc then I'm happy.
Harry Potter was perfectly wrapped up and we don't need lots of backstory on it.

So yeah, bring it on!
A really great cast too

I really enjoyed the Harry Potter Books as they were engrossing and interesting.
Also enjoyed the two Deathly Hollow movies, the others not so much.

Will check this movie out and hope it doesn't reference Harry Potter every ten seconds.

Who cares about her milking and cashing in on the franchise, if the content is good that is all I care. I'm really excited for this movie.

So, say what you want about his cash grab but...

-It has a clean slate, no books with strict cannon to stick to
-It had a good premise. Magic + NY + Magical Beasts + 1920's
-It can feel like nostalgic of Potter and sort of original at the same time
-They have an amazing production and budget. So, hopefully, good effects
-Good cast
-The possibility to expand to other movies (yes, this character is on a journey for NY in this movie, but I think I saw somewhere that he becomes HOgwarts headmaster at some point)... different movies of the same trilogy, with different stories and settings.
-THe possibility of Hugh Laurie to play the British MInister of Magic... or Daniel Craig to play a Head Auror... or tons of british actors in cool badass roles.

Summary: Yes, totally a cash grab, but it is likely that I will go see it and enjoy it.

To all those Dr Strange fans: I got nothing against strange and if it has good word of mouth I'll go see it, but... there is no chance Strange will be in the big hitters of next year when it is not even going to be the WIzard/Magic movie that more attention is going to get in November alone.

The Harry Potter series is unmatched. Its not a trilogy, but 8 critically acclaimed films. Its unheard of.

Another thing to keep in mind this film has going for it is this will mark the debut
of American character actors to the Potter world.
