As promised, Warner Bros. has shared the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, giving us a first proper look at Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald.

The teaser begins with Dumbledore (Jude Law) assembling a team to "take down the most dangerous wizard in over a century," as his old enemy Grindelwald continues to sow the seeds of discord in the hopes of waging all-out war against the Muggles.

Among other things, fans can expect to explore Dumbledore's origins, as we dive into the complex, high-stakes relationship between Harry Potter's mentor and Grindelwald to unlock the story of these two legendary wizards.

Check out the trailer below, and let us know what you think.

Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Jude Law and Ezra Miller are all set to reprise their respective roles from the previous instalments, with David Yates back behind the camera. There will be one major casting change, however.

Johnny Depp revealed that he'd been asked to "resign" from his role as the villainous Gellert Grindelwald last year. Though he didn't specify the reason at the time, this came just days after the Pirates of the Caribbean star lost a libel case against British tabloid The Sun, who labelled him a "wife-beater" in a 2019 article.

Shortly after, WB announced that Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) had signed on to replace Depp as the character.

@JustAChillFan - Honestly, not sure if its worse or better, than The Crimes of Grindewald.

Terrible title. Remember when these movies were primarily supposed to be about the beasts?

OmegaBlack13 - 12/13/2021, 10:43 AM
@BlackBeltJones - It seems like that was a ploy from the beginning because the end of the first one immediately made it clear that they were actually gonna be doing the rise of Grindlewald.

@OmegaBlack13 - damn shame. Just create a separate spin-off if you wanna explore that.

Haven't watched the last one but why is the Muggle still around and somewhat important to the plot?

@Kingdork - Do yourself a favor and avoid these movies like the plague. The second movie retcons the first's ending, that's why they brought back the Muggle.

@Kingdork - They just completely dismissed his memory getting erased. And now it looks like he's going to become a wizard LMAO!

Why did they remove Johnny? He was the only interesting thing about the last one

I don't understand why they went from Fantastic Beasts to Dumbledore again. Everyone knows what happens to him and if they are going to explore anyone from the Harry Potter saga it should have been his parents.

Looks cool, as a someone who was a Harry Potter Superfan at one point (I had prescription HP glasses for most of Elementary school) this seems cool. I like the last one more than most primarily because of its connections to what we know with Grindelwald and Dumbledore but my only real criticism here is that Mads just looks like Mads. Why doesn’t he look like Grindelwald? Maybe it’s explained in the movie but I was hoping for the more classic platinum blonde look like Depp had

Whoa.
Zero footage of Katherine Waterson in this trailer.

Also, I think I like how Mads Grendelwald looks more “realistic”, compared to Depp’s.

Terrible title but hopefully better than Crimes of Grindelwald. I enjoyed the first movie but it should have been a fun one and done.

@MrDandy - Yeah i 100% agree with your comment since the story was all wrapped up at the end of part one / film one / the first film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

What a dumbass title. Just give us a 30 minute short film with the Dumbledore v Grindelwald fight. Literally the only reason anyone gives a tiny shit about this franchise.
MUTO123
MUTO123 - 12/13/2021, 12:17 PM
So Muggles can just be given wands now? Alright.

Also, what happened to Grindelwald's weird-ass eye?
Odin
Odin - 12/13/2021, 12:33 PM
@MUTO123 - Yeah, if muggles can now become some sort of 'pseudo-wizards' as the trailer seems to suggest, that would make the whole second wizarding war (you know, the whole Voldemort-ark of the franchise) seem kind of odd in retrospect.
