It didn't take long for the Fantastic Beasts franchise to shift the spotlight from Newt Scamander to some bigger names from the Harry Potter franchise, and the title of the next instalment says it all.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore arrives in theaters on April 15, 2022, and the first full-length trailer drops on Monday. In the meantime, the video below ends with a sneak peek that takes us back to Hogwarts and reveals Mads Mikkelsen's take on the villainous Gellert Grindelwald (after Warner Bros. made the decision to recast Johnny Depp due to his legal battle with Amber Heard).
Newt is still part of the story, of course, and it does look like we're getting more fantastic beasts.
"Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world," reads the movie's official synopsis. "Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"
As well as Mikkelsen, the movie stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Jessica Williams, and Callum Turner. David Yates returns to direct the movie from a screenplay written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.
