HARRY POTTER 8-Film Collection Enters DEG's Watched At Home Top 20 List

Last week, DEG introduced the "Watched at Home Top 20" list to offer information regarding which films are currently being viewed the most by people at home, and this week we have a few new entrants...

With theaters expected to remain closed indefinitely, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group recently introduced the "Watched at Home Top 20" list, which would tally up the most popular titles consumed on disc and digital (excluding outside subscription-based streaming platforms).

This week, while Disney/Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker unsurprisingly remained on top, Sony's Bad Boys for Life leapfrogged up to second with Paramount's Sonic the Hedgehog, Universal's Dolittle, and Sony's Jumanji: The Next Level rounding out the top five.

Both Bad Boys for Life and STX's The Gentlemen made their 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD debuts earlier this week, which should explain the big jumps for both as the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence-starrer jumped from fourth to second, while the Guy Ritchie-directed action-comedy moved up to 7th from 13th. However, while those two titles benefitted, Paramount's Like a Boss was unable to crack the Top 20 despite also debuting on physical home media earlier this week.

There aren't many other surprises, but the Harry Potter 8-Film Collection saw an unexpected leap into the Top 20 (coming in exactly at #20), usurping Universal's Cats. The entire collection has been on sale for the past few weeks on most digital platforms, including iTunes and Vudu, and it looks like fans are taking advantage of the deal as they remain at home during this exceedingly trying time.

For the week of April 23, here is the ‘Watched at Home Top 20’ list:

  1. Star Wars: Ep IX - The Rise of Skywalker (Disney)
  2. Bad Boys for Life (Sony)
  3. Sonic the Hedgehog (Paramount)
  4. Dolittle (Universal)
  5. Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony)
  6. The Call of the Wild (Disney, 2020)
  7. The Gentlemen (STX/Universal, 2019)
  8. Birds of Prey: Harley Quinn (WB)
  9. 1917 (Universal)
  10. Little Women (Sony, 2019)
  11. Bloodshot (Sony, 2020)
  12. The Way Back (WB, 2020)
  13. Underwater (Fox)
  14. Knives Out (Lionsgate)
  15. Just Mercy (WB)
  16. Ford v Ferrari (Fox)
  17. Spies in Disguise (Fox)
  18. Onward (Disney)
  19. Frozen II (Disney)
  20. Harry Potter (WB, Complete 8-film Collection)

@IronGenesis - It'll be really interesting to see if they do anything like the cursed child seeing as everyone hated it. But then, J.K says it's canon. So it's not like she'll write anything else...

@Nightwing1015 - I didn’t read it or see it. But it did WIN TONY AWARD for Best Play.

@IronGenesis - Yeah I'm sure it was a very well-made play and fully deserved it. But that doesn't mean it's a good Harry Potter story. I didn't like it when I first read the script and my feelings were reenforced by this video I watch on it:

Finished the last 3 movies...don't know how/why it took so long.

Was actually kind of surprised seeing some similarities between the end of HP and Infinity War and Endgame.

There were quite a bit. Either way this series is awesome. Just a cool set a movies.

@TheJustinHammer

I'm not saying beat for beat similarities...

but yes the horcruxes reminded me of the infinity stones.

@regularmovieguy - Yeah. Harry Potter invented big scale - fibale battles. And Wanda's one on one fight with Thanos is clearly based on Molly Weasley's fight with Bellatrix. They both lasted for 20 seconds and made a poweful impact.

He's not being serious...just thinks I'm saying Marvel copied JK Rowling lmao. Which is not what I'm saying, at all.

@TheJustinHammer

Maybe I was thinking of the Hallows - Idk. Been about a month or two since I finished the series. The Elder Wand, the Cloak, and I'm forgetting what else.

That and Goblet of Fire are probably my favorite out of the bunch.

WakandanQueen - 4/23/2020, 2:27 PM
@regularmovieguy - Goblet of Fire is in the top half, but I really dig Half-Blood Prince. Idk why, a lot of people I know seem to hate it. I haven't read the books.
Unites
Unites - 4/23/2020, 2:28 PM
@WakandanQueen - Somehow POA is one my least favorite. I don't know why. It's a beautifully crafted movie. But I like the others more I guess? It's been so since I was a kid. Maybe because that werewolf scared me?

My favorite is Order of the Phoenix. That final battle... those visuals... Love it!

Don’t know about the movie but the book version of Order of the Phoenix was such a drag, longest book ever.
WakandanQueen
WakandanQueen - 4/23/2020, 2:32 PM
@Unites - Order of the Phoenix ranks 7th for me, only above Chamber of Secrets.
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 4/23/2020, 2:34 PM
@WakandanQueen

Half Blood Prince is solid. I think it took me so long to finish the series because I heard Order and Half Blood dragged but that wasn't the case in my experience at all.

Hell, I even really enjoyed the first part of the DH. I thought how they explained the Deathly Hallows - those visuals were [frick]ing awesome.
Unites
Unites - 4/23/2020, 2:37 PM
@WakandanQueen - How do you rank them? My list:

1. Order of the Phoenix
2. DH Part 1
3. Philosopher's Stone
4. Goblet of Fire
5. Chamber of Secrets
6. Prisoner of Azkaban / Half-Blood Prince / DH1

I was expecting it to kind of suck given that Part 1’s usually do. It was awesome 👍🏻
kylo0607
kylo0607 - 4/23/2020, 2:49 PM
@WakandanQueen - POA is amazing and the turning point for the series, when things really started to get dark and somber.

It also has one of the best time travel plots in movies.
kylo0607
kylo0607 - 4/23/2020, 3:49 PM
@regularmovieguy - The HBP book is amazimg.

It shows a lot of memories, including Voldemort's grandfather. It also explains more about the Horcruxes.

The film in comparison drags like hell until the last 30 mins, including a boring and unnecessary love subplot and Harry trying to obtain the memory from Slughorn. It just omits everything cool and important from the book.

Not to mention that ugly ass green color grading. It makes it one of the dullest looking HP films.
