Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been revealed by USA Today, featuring
Johnny Depp as the titular Dark Wizard, along with Rosier (Poppy Corby-Tuech), who will be one of Grindelwald's many recruits.
Speaking to USA Today, director David Yates also spoke about the younger Albus Dumbledore, who will be played by Jude Law. Rather than Headmaster, Dumbledore will be a teacher at Hogwarts who
“refuses to conform to the status quo” and is
“passionate, mischievous and an inspiration” to his young students, said Yates.
“Dumbledore sees Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as a kindred spirit, an outsider, who is misunderstood. They recognize each other’s strengths and vulnerabilities.”
The two heroes will face off with Depp's Grindelwald, who holds the belief of
"suppressing all non-magical beings, whom he views as inferior to wizards," Yates explained.
“He's a charismatic figure who uses his undeniable appeal to inspire others to blindly follow his cause.”
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald arrives in theatres on
November 16, 2018.
