If the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore made anything clear, it's that this franchise has become a platform to tell Albus Dumbledore's origin story rather than a fun caper with Magizoologist Newt Scamander. That character has become a supporting player in what was supposed to be his own franchise, but this instalment still looks like an improvement over its predecessor.
Unsurprisingly, the poster for the movie also ties into Dumbledore and Hogwarts as we see Fawkes, the Professor's beloved Phoenix, flying towards the iconic castle. It's a great piece of imagery, and one that definitely drives home Warner Bros.' hopes to entice fans of the Harry Potter series back to theaters.
"Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world," reads the movie's official synopsis for the third Fantastic Beasts movie. "Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?"
As well as Mads Mikkelsen, the movie stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Jessica Williams, and Callum Turner. David Yates returns to direct the movie from a screenplay written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set to be released in theaters on April 15, 2022.
