JUSTICE LEAGUE Director Zack Snyder Is Developing A "Faithful" Retelling Of The King Arthur Legend

Fans have been speculating about Zack Snyder's next project once Justice League and Army of the Dead are released, and the popular filmmaker has now teased a faithful retelling of the Arthurian legend!

Zack Snyder's Justice League hits HBO Max next month, while Army of the Dead arrives on Netflix later this year. That makes it an exciting time to be a fan of the Watchmen and Man of Steel director, but what comes next? We know a return to the DC Extended Universe is unlikely, and only time will tell whether Marvel Studios or Lucasfilm consider working with the director.

Recently, Snyder caught up with I Minutemen to hype up the Snyder Cut's release, and revealed that one of the projects he's working on is a retelling on the legend of King Arthur.

"I'm working on something but we'll see," he teased. "I've been thinking about some kind of retelling, like, [a] real sort of faithful retelling of that Arthurian mythological concept. We'll see. Maybe that will come at some point."

We've seen a lot of films based on Arthurian Legend over the years, with one of the most recent being Guy Ritchie's take in 2017. That starred Charlie Hunnam, but didn't receive an overly warm response (mixing fantasy/a historical setting with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels doesn't work that well as it turns out).

Given Snyder's acclaimed work on 300, he could prove to be a perfect fit for a story like this. The visuals would certainly be on another level, while his interest in exploring the "Arthurian mythological concept" could prove to be both something we haven't seen before, and a fresh take on a familiar setting.
