Amazon's upcoming
The Lord of the Rings prequel series has received a late addition to its ensemble cast in the form of
Years & Years and
Doctor Who actor Maxim Baldry.
Like most of his fellow Middle Earth recruits, details on Baldry's character are being kept under wraps, but he is expected to play a "key role."
Plot specifics for the show are also few and far between, but it has been confirmed that the story will take place many years before the events of the first installment in J.R.R. Tolkien's iconic fantasy trilogy,
The Fellowship of the Ring. Production is expected to commence soon in New Zealand, and the show has already been renewed for a second season.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are on board as showrunners and exec producers, while J.A. Bayona (
The Orphanage, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) will direct the first two episodes and serve as EP with his partner Belén Atienza.
