THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Promos Tease The Return Of Sauron Annatar

As promotion for the show ramps-up, Prime Video has debuted a new TV spot, clip and behind-the-scenes featurette for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, teasing the return of a "nameless fear."

As the premiere date for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power draws near (less than a month to go!), Prime Video has shared some more promos for the show, giving us a look at plenty of exciting new footage.

The TV spot and behind-the-scenes featurette focus on Middle Earth's descent into darkness, as an unspeakable evil thought to be long-vanquished creeps back into the world. We also have a full clip spotlighting Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) discovering a group of dead Orcs surrounding a symbol that leaves little doubt that Sauron has returned.

The recent SDCC trailer seemingly revealed that the demonic villain (played by Bridie Sisson) will take on his "fair" Annatar form when the show begins in order to deceive the Elves and trick Celibrimbor into forging the rings, but it has been confirmed that he will shape-shift throughout the course of the season, which means we will likely see something a little closer to his black armored warrior look from Peter Jackson's movies at some point.

Check out the new videos below, and let us know if you're looking forward to The Rings of Power in the usual spot.

Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to premiere on Friday, September 2.

@ScaryTerry -
Are you mad? This is entirely designed to destroy the franchise. So once it is dead they'll be able to create whatever they want using the franchises shell.

@Scarilian - Am I mad? Because I’m looking forward to something that looks good in my opinion? No. Are u mad tho?

@ScaryTerry - looks good lol.

If you're a brain damaged trauma victim maybe.

@Toblakai - So I’m brain damaged because I have a personal opinion on something as subjective as a TV show? Personal attacks against someone for an opinion on what is essentially art is a sign of mental illness, not disagreement to another’s myopic view, champ.

@ScaryTerry - if your personal opinion is that this series isn't a rotting, pus filled boil.....then yes.

Hopefully disgust. Don't be tricked again by them destroying a franchise intentionally.

No. It looks terrible. It's designed entirely to make you hate the franchise so they can destroy it and rebuild it afterwards once nobody from the original fanbase cares about it.

How long is this set before Gandalf and crew are sent to Middle-Earth?
Odin
Odin - 8/6/2022, 9:55 AM
@TheDpool - About 2900 years before, I think. Not 100% sure though. This happens in the second age, when wizards arrived to Middle-Earth it was already 1000 years into the third age.
1stDalek
1stDalek - 8/6/2022, 9:22 PM
@TheDpool - I think, Odin's about right with his estimate, but it depends on how they handle the timeline as there's some moving around of things going on. Sauron spends a couple thousand years causing chaos during the 2nd Age and this seems to begin with his arrival about 1500 years into the 2nd Age.

@1stDalek - Yeah I think Odin got it there, I thought I was roughly well versed with LOTR mythology but I've definitely got some time periods mixed up.

This is going to rip apart Lord Of The Rings and is only being made to insert modern social/political messaging into the story, to intentionally destroy it, entirely so they can shove in a new piece of media that you'll be more willing to accept once they shit all over the old.

Stop allowing this to happen with franchise after franchise and maybe one of them will survive long enough that it'll outlast this period of 'destroying the past'. The tide is already slowly shifting.

@Scarilian - You clearly have some strong feelings about this, and that's fine, but your apparent need for everyone else to share your opinion is ridiculous. There are more important things in life than a LoTR show.

Maybe go for a nice walk or something.

Peter Jackson was shunned by the people working on this production. That’s a real shame since he made the movies first and are still masterpieces today.
