Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot–fame and fortune are his for the taking–that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity–and even a bit of wizardry–Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Oz: The Great and Powerful stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Abigail Spencer, and will be released on March 8th.

The color palette emulates the old Technicolor look. That's pretty cool actually!

This has a real prominent Alice in Wonderland sorta vibe to it. Now, if only that were a good thing, I might have any interest in this movie. Nothing I've seen makes me want to even bother watching anymore of the trailers. I have to believe that this could've been handled better. Wizard of Oz is my all time favorite movie. I'm not an Oz purist, and have liked several of the different incarnations of that world over the years, so it has no bearing on how I look at this film. The effects look cheap, and cartoony for a modern blockbuster, and that alone makes the whole thing appear as though it'll be cheap and cartoony. Possible Redbox for me, but most likely a free download first before making such a rash decision to pay for disappointment.

@imadick Thank goodness, do you wanna not see it with me? We can not get popcorn and not sit right in the front row and not yell at the people behind us for being too loud because we won't be enjoying the movie.

Sam Raimi imitating Tim Burton....yuck.
This will probably be a good movie given the talents of the cast and crew but it could also be a pile of crap given everything we've seen so far. I hope this is just another Disney marketing blunder, they're live action films of late haven't been bad they've just had crap campaigns and a negative stigma with the Disney brand.
